Having watched the original British Series "Criminal Justice" and the remake "The Night Of", seeing an Indian remake with brilliant actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Meeta Vashishth and Jackie Shroff made me immediately watch the mini series. Something that I had expected from before hand was that the story won't be as surprising after watching the other two versions multiple times remained. But, one thing that got me hooked into the series was Pankaj Tripathi's performance. After finishing the series, I was blown out of my mind watching his performance because I never thought anybody apart from John Turturro (in the American Remake) could nail that character. I almost fell in love with the character of Madhav Mishra seeing his determination towards proving Aditya innocent, despite struggling his own personal fights.

Another character that really caught my eye was Mustafa (played by Jackie Shroff). Even thought the basic storyline of all the three versions of Criminal Justice is the same, the treatment and character development were different and in the other two versions, I had a hard time understanding the character of Freddy Graham (Criminal Justice) and Freddy Knight (The Night Of) but Jackie Shroff's Mustafa made me actually understand what he was trying to play at with our main protagonist and why. He was selfish for his own reasons but at the same time, he made it easier for Aditya to survive in a den full of lions. The process of how he turned Aditya from a scared lamb to a lion was mind blowing.

Though I feel Vikrant Massey's performance didn't actually hit my mind like Riz Ahmed's (Naz) did. This is the only thing that I felt made me give the 3.5 stars rating to this show otherwise it could've been a straight 4.5/5

Mild thrill mostly
The story starts off with Aditya (Vikrant Massey) looking forward to a night out with friends, but plans go awry and the night soon turns into a murder mystery. Chances of fair retribution looks bleak as he has no recollection of the night. The story begins on a high note and ends on a high note, it's the middle that feels dragged. Few shots and segues are redundantly long and unengaging.

However, remarkable performances manage to lure in the viewers and deliver as much as they promise. Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) a sloppy unethical lawyer who is on a journey of trnaformation into a conscientious and dedicated individual, is the saving grace and delivers a performance that's hard to forget. Performances by Jackie Shroff and Vikrant Massey are quite convincing and remain consistent with the central theme. Appalling revelations seem to be reserved for the last couple of episodes. Thrills, therefore, are sparse.

Another concern for a fastidious viewer might be occurrence of unconvincing coincidences necessary to sustain story line. Being an adaptation writers could have made an attempt to copy the plot without the plot holes, The series is a bit far from competing with the big guns like sacred games but shines regardless in its niche.

Watchable!
With a star studded cast, the 10 episodes show does a little justice to the hype created by its teaser and poster. Vikrant Massey is a goody two shoes who would do nothing to hurt anyone. This good boy attitude of never saying no, lands him in the ordeal of crime and courtrooms. The part that set the whole how off is the parallel running different themes of the show. Too many themes and genres, take the attention away from the whole point of the show. The best and my favourite part of the show was the character Mustafa, brilliantly portrayed by Jackie Shroff who becomes a jail companion for Massey’s character and also turns out to be his guardian angel in the prison. The episodes felt stretched on at some points, but other than that it is a nice watchable series and can be found on Hotstar.

Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Vikrant Massey, Jackie Shroff and other big names, this is one of those shows that make you watch them just because of some brilliant performances. Pankaj Tripathi is one the finest actors that our generation has seen. His acting just makes you wonder whether any other actor could have played the role this well. Shroff is good too but Massey isn't half as good as he was in some movies that we saw in the past few years. Overall, a nice Sunday binge watch.

Engaging!
Criminal Justice is an Indian web series by Hotstar. It follows the story of a cab driver who has a one night stand with a passenger and is later blamed for her murder. It is based on the BBC series of same name. It stars Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi and Jackie Shroff in lead roles, all of them giving stellar performances. Their acting lifts the show and overcomes the little demerits the show has. The show is a perfect anecdote for crime thriller lover and fans of the genre. Often, Indian adaptations of foreign shows are let down by writing and Criminal Justice too, suffers from that but not too much. It is decent enough to hold your interest through the entirety of the show.

Scope of improvement
Criminal Justice is the Indian version of the series Criminal justice by Peter Mofatt. The Indian version is adapted by Shridhar Raghavan. The series revolve around proving “Aditya” played by Vikrat Massey innocence is a murder case. The main idea behind the series is good, it has enough potential to keep its viewers hook yet the series seem to drag in most of the episodes.
The episodes have certain loose ends which makes the audience confused at the complexity of the story. The acting was good, since they had experienced cast, yet there are lot of ways this series could have filmed betetr. It’s sometimes fast paced for example the last 2 episodes and lagged in the middle of the series.
Apart from all the technical aspects of the film, this series tends to show how the police work even though it was dramatized but it somehow gave us a gist about the working of police force, investigation processes and the way they deal with the suspects. The media is also shown in a way absurd and upto what extent it can go to misrepresent certain facts and mislead the people.
Scope of improvement but doesn’t disappoint.

Murder Mystery Gives you Kick?
Then this ones for you pal...
Criminal Justice is a multi-layered story that not only follows the story of the lead i.e. Vikrant Massey’s Aditya, but also explores various subplots, giving depth and life to the plot.
Three characters hold the show together with their spectacular performances: Vikrant Massey’s Aditya, Pankaj Tripathi’s Madhav Mishra, and Jackie Shroff’s Mustafa. Vikrant transforms his innocent, boy-next-door character into a toughed up, exhausted man- result of the prison environment.
Aditya is driving his father’s cab one night, as a favor to his sister, when he picks up a customer, Sanaya, who will change his life forever. Some heated arguments and an apology later, Aditya finds himself in Sanaya’s home, and one thing leads to another, and he spends the night in her bed; only to wake up to find her stabbed to death. He is accused of her murder, but he can’t remember anything. Is he guilty or as innocent as he claims to be?
Criminal Justice is a police procedural drama that touches upon various topics such as police brutality and politics, coercion, manipulation, media sensationalism, the whole new world of prison, and the issues a convict’s or accused person’s family has to face.
The dark, dingy cinematography throughout the series perfectly matches the mood of the plot.

'Criminal Justice'plays out the crime investigation, courtroom intrigue and prison horror in bouts of brilliantly written scenes by Shridhar Raghavan. Criminal justice tells us about the subverted judicial system is far more relevant than the 'thriller' intentions that plat out on the surface of this edge-of-the-seat crime drama.
While every actor is in-sync with the dark gripping mood of a crime that is not as simple as it seems, no one gets it better than Pankaj Tripathi. He plays a sleazy low-down lawyer slimming it out at police station pimping for desperate clients, Pankaj brings to his character a mortal centre in spite of his seeming dissipation. Its good to have Jackie Shroff in this series and he seems to enjoy the character which is very much in his 'beedu' style.
The series, after Aditya(Vikrant Massey) is jailed, is divided into two distinct parts. In one we follow the criminal trail of the incident and the other half follows Aditya's journey in jail and how he transforms completely.
The best part of the show is it's intriguing and completely congruent with the style and tone of a crime series. The series also finds substantial support which increases tention and soothes inwqual part.

Intriguing thriller
It was quite intriguing and thrilling. It was a proper mystery unfolded, bit by bit, which was very appreciable. It had many characters, though, but each of them had played pivotal roles and had done proper justice to their characters.
