Man of Steel (2013)

I know what the critics has said. They complained about too much action, superman being too serious, lack of romance, etc. Since Zack Snyder directed this movie, I don't think he cared about the critics.
The visuals were spectacular! What's best about this movie is its action scenes. The action were just relentless. I think the fans would not be disappointed at all.The battle between Superman & Zod will definitely 'wow' everyone but the critics. I mean who cares about the critics opinion? A superhero movie MUST NOT be judged by the critics opinion, what's more important is the audience's opinion about the movie and especially the fans.The action were better than last year's The Avengers.

The director has tried to bring in the philosophical and moral issues involving having a super hero in real life., but has been unable to keep up with all the logical loop holes that will need to be handled when trying to make a superhero believable. The movie comes no where close to the brilliance of the likes of Batman Begins. The editing and compilation isnt great either, with a lot of discontinuities clearly visible. Watchable once.

See, the thing about Stan Lee and Kevin Fiege is that when making a superhero movie, they know why people will rush in opening weekend. They know what it's like to read a comic and see flying people punching criminals. It's fun. Even when the movies they make are dark, they're still fun. Even when they have political/social commentary, they're fun. Even when they have flaws or are just plain bad, they're made with the intention of being fun. Marvel doesn't just want cash, Marvel wants us to smile.

DC, on the other hand, has a policy that only makes their superheroes feel like they were treated by Christopher Nolan, without the subtlety or any relation to the Dark Knight trilogy. They will just pick any director that will make the movie a winner in audience attention but not audience reaction, and make anyone who isn't Batman grittier than they were meant to be. Gone are the days when Superman would use his heat vision to heat up a BBQ or turn into a baby repeatedly in his life, but that surely can't mean he should be this corrupted. DC doesn't want us to smile, DC just wants cash.

Man of Steel isn't the masterpiece the trailers promised. It suffers from mediocre screenwriting, poor directing, and an obvious heavy editing hand to pare down the run time. This is a 3 hour movie butchered into 2.3 hours. Henry Cavill is more than a pretty face. His acting is top notch. Amy Adams does a decent job but comes off as Pam from The Office. While the story isn't perfect, it is bolstered by a great score, great visuals (although some look like they were made in the 70's), and the most amazing fight action ever seen on the big screen! It's Dragonball Z meets Marvel v Capcom and is nothing short of incredible! I saw this movie twice. It's better the 2nd time around.The plot holes seemed even bigger, but the story was easier to follow. I'd also recommend seeing in IMAX 3D. The experience was notably better than regular 3D.
