Downton Abbey is a costume drama, set in the fictional estate of Downton (Yorkshire). The plot is based on the life of the members of the aristocratic Crawley family, who are forced to brave the unforeseen and endure the unbearable. The period on which the series is based, is the Edwardian era where the society stood on the brink of plunging into a brave new world where the old ways of life will be shattered, beliefs will be remodeled, and notions of society and morality will be altered. The series meticulously tracks the conflict of traditional and the practical through the characters and their response to the flux. The picturesque locations of Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Yorkshire, and Leeds are extensively utilized to present the impeccable sense of England of the early 20th century. Julian Fellowes creates a gripping and thoroughly entertaining story which he brilliantly unfolds in four seasons, with the audience eagerly awaiting the fifth to taste England
