It feels like a small plot meets a large budget.
They had SRK & Irfan Khan & Lara Dutta as cast..... And even that was not enough... They have to include "3" item numbers with Priyanka , Deepika & Kareena !! to fill up time and sell the film.
Plot is good but small. They created a huge buildup for climax. This premise could have been used to create a better movie special with such terrific cast.
Songs are good.

Irrfan Khan and SRK are both perfection in their roles, as long lost childhood friends, one who became a megastar, and the other a barber barely scraping by. Samir (SRK) chooses Billu's small village to shoot his latest film and rumors that BIllu once knew Samir changes Billu's life dramatically (and very comically). I loved how posters and clips from SRK's real movies are used to showcase his stardom as Samir!

The movie dragged a little and could have been tightened up, but the last 15 minutes moved me very much from the point of Samir's speech to the village school to the end and his reunion with Billu. Shahrukh Khan brought me to tears talking about his friend, and then the reunion was played just right and not overplayed to the point of melodrama.

The music numbers are interspersed as Samir is working on his film, and Farah Khan takes advantage of the opportunity to take the item number production over the top with three different female film stars.

Priyadarshan who is known for movies like Hera Pheri (Excellent) , Garam Masal (Entertaining) , Kyon Ki (touching). Works with SRK for the first time. Promos looked promising etc, but i guess the movie lacked a soul.
Billu was just boring from starting to ending, SRK was busy promoting himself as a big star in the movie, although that is what the role demanded.. I was just getting tired of the filmposters and scenes from all his other movies, they should have come up with something innovative here. SRK had a superstar attitude throughout the whole movie except the last 10 minutes. Irfan Khan shines again, the amazing actor manages to perform really well in this bad written flick too, that is what an actors job is after all, very good Irfan! Lara doesn't have much scope, 10 minutes all together? or 20 maybe! SRK proves that he is a very commercial producer, and uses his celebrity friends for item songs so that the promos look cool. Kareena Kapoor sure looked good in Marjaani, Deepika looked OK, and Priyanka did a good job. Though the songs were horribly misplaced in the movie.
Irfans kids in the movie do a great job, they were natural. Songs by pritam are of course a very big hit. They are all great, Marjaani, Love Mera Hit Hit, Khudaiya Khair/You get me rocking and reeling. Superb.
