I loved this film. Just loved it. I sobbed with tears running down my face through the last third. It really touched my heart.

Krish and Ananya meet at their MBA grad school. She wants to just be friends and study partners, but Krish can't help falling in love, which leads to my favorite song of the movie "Locha-e-ulfit" which the subtitles translate to "Confuzzled in love". :)

This is modern Bollywood, and Ananya not only kisses Krish when he confesses his love, but they soon fall into bed together, and live together for the rest of their time at college. There is a beautiful song montage that takes you through various festivals to show the time passing. But Krish's proposal of marriage as their MBA program is ending is just the beginning of their story. She is from Chennai, and he is from Punjab. Her parents and his mother hate each other almost from first sight at their graduation ceremony and Krish's mother uses a slur about Southern Indians. Krish's alcoholic dad doesn't even bother to show.

Krish works hard to win over Ananya's parents in Chennai, and slowly does. That's just the first hurdle. Krish's mother is horrible to Ananya when she visits Punjab for a family wedding with Krish, and Ananya learns just how dysfunctional his relationship is with his father. The couple tries to have a vacation for the families to meet and it goes disastrously. Ananya gives up, and breaks off their engagement. Krish becomes depressed to the point of suicide. His father saves the day by visiting Ananya's parents in Chennai and smoothing things over.

2 States is based on the book by Chetan Bhagat (who also wrote the book that 3 Idiots was adapted from). I gather it's mostly autobiographical. I don't know a lot about the cultural differences and prejudices between Northern and Southern Indians, but this movie shows how hard all of that is to overcome for the couple to get together, on top of getting parents to agree to a love marriage instead of an arranged one. In India, saying "We love each other. Shouldn't that be enough?" really isn't. As Krish says, the families have to get along, too. Being in an interfaith marriage myself, I can understand some of the chasm that they had to bridge.

I thought Arjun Kapoor was fantastic as Krish, and Alia Bhatt really won me over. I wasn't impressed with her in Student of the Year, but she was absolutely charming in 2 States. This film is the best of new Bollywood, all of the great songs, but with a realistic conflict and drama to match any Hollywood film.

Arjun's fangirls,go for it!
The stereotyped concept of inter-state marriage in India and the hotchpotch that ensues. The conflicting ideals of a Tamil Brahmin family and a Punjabi family- and two passionate lovers drawn in the brawl. The movie speaks about the fact how marriage is more important as a tie-up between families and culture more than the bonding between two persons! A lot of mud-slinging between parents and a lot of hard work on the part of the lovers to bring them round!
Alia and Arjun are commendable in their roles-so are the supporting cast! Music is mesmerizing in some parts-making the flow of the movie smooth and enchanting! Newcomer director does a good job in adapting the bestseller novel into an entertaining piece

"Feel good romantic comedy!!!"
The attractive promos, catchy songs & extended weekend should make it an overwhelming favourite at the box office. In all likelihood, the film will turn out to be a profitable venture for Karan Johar & Sajid Nadiadwala. It doesn't proclaim of being an intellectual or different movie but the elements has been integrated in a manner which makes it for an enjoyable watch. So check it out!!!

2 States is the on screen adaptation of the popular novel 2states of the same name..
The Dialogues of the Movie are the high point and while some are borrowed from the book the rest are new, refreshing and impactful.. The movie is breezy, light and colorful.. Performance from all the actors are top notch..
If you have read the novel then let me tell you its not better than the novel and nothing is new.. but for the majority who haven't its a really good movie too have come after a long time.. Its humorous and sends out a message at the same time but not being too serious..Its real and refreshing..but on the other side for those who have watched it might turn out to be predictable, dragging & boring..

Awesome movie !!! Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are from different communities of two different corners of India. They fall in love while studying in IIM but their parents were not satisfied about their partners so there was drama about how they got agreed to marriage. Watch it!!!

Novel Copied, Nothing New
Directed by Abhishek Varman 2 states was a average movie for me. I've read 2 states novel by Chetan Bhagat, from which the movie was adapted. And if i compare it with novel it was a less entertaining version of it.
If you haven't read 2 states then you'll may find it a good movie.
Story undoubtedly is the best part. However, some part of the novel has been deducted. The movie must have been a cake make for the director as the scenes are a ditto copy of the novel. Screenplay was average, script unimpressive, dialogues copied, i found nothing new i can praise of.
The only person happy with the movie must be Chetan Bhagat.
Best part were the songs. Arijit singh and Benny Dayal's hit tracks did a impressive promotion for the movie. Uffo and Locha-e-Ulfat were hit even before the release.
When it comes to acting it was average. Rohit Roy as Krish's father was the only actor i could see. Arjun Kapoor, keeping in mind that he's a beginner did a very good jod. Amrita Singh also did a pretty nice job as a typical punjabi mother. Alia Bhatt was a hell. South Indian parents did great, although.
In India, love stories are really praised. And movies like DDLJ had already set a standard. Therefore, creating anything of that level is a really difficult task.
All in all 2 states is decent movie. Must be watched at least once. Not a multiple watch.
I'll give it a 3.

adrasis are dark, Punjabis are cash-obsessed, and never the twain shall meet. Those familiar prejudices make for a legitimate movie pitch, but '2 States', directed by first-timer Abhishek Varman, is a frustrating case of a promising premise that doesn't fully fructify into a compelling film.

Alia and Arjun make this a special!
The movie witnesses an inter culture bonding between the two families more than an inter caste marriage! Yes, it proves the old Indian saying about the marriage being the unite of two families more than two people. Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya (Alia Bhatt) study at prestigious IIM college in Ahmedabad completing their post graduation.
What happens next is exciting where these both from being good friends to falling in love, enjoy their lives to the fullest. Both the actors seem to be vvery much comfortable together and thus their pair flourishes throughout the movie. The director Abhishek Varman seems to be walking on KJo's footsteps as the he displays some extra glamour hence taking away from the actual life at IIM-A campus. We do see a girl entering a boy's hostel and hooking up with him inside the room.
The Romantic sequels have been shot perfectly but the story moves at a sluggish pace. One does get a feeling of fast forwarding it to the climax as it is the only thing that needs a bit of guessing. Other actors Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh play a short but a vital role in the movie making sure the inter culture differences are dished out generously to the people.
The script work is one of tidiest as it is taken from the popular novel "TWO STATES" written by Chetan Bhagat, the movie has something which makes it a one-time watch as Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt just manage to catch enough eyeballs!
