A series that revolves around the true story of an erstwhile popular gangster from the badlands of Uttar Pradesh, it manages to give you a striking and watch worthy entertainment. It centres itself around the actual life of 'Shri Prakash Shukla', an actual criminal biggie from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Some names have changed, of course, for the names of some political heavyweights of UP were involved. However, the show is good and sticks to the old world charm of the crime genre. Comparing this to either Sacred Games or Mirzapur would be fair to your critical mind and as a matter of fact, this isn't as good as those two, however, to say it isn't nice at all would be fairly wrong. It has a story of its own and its own characters that do justice to the script. It stars Ranveer Shorey, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ahana Kumra and Saqib Salim.
Starring Dia Mirza and Rohit Raina, Kaafir revolves around the story of a woman, Kainaaz, who, on accidentally crossing over into Kashmir from the POK, is mistook to be a militant and therefore, lodged in jail. Incidentally, Vedant, a lawyer-turned- journalist, find his hands on a footage of Seher, Kainaaz's daughter. Hell bent on finding the 'truth' about Kainaaz, he embarks on journey that includes a series of interviews with her. Depicting the stoic and poignant reality, it is a fine specimen of a good storyline centred around the background of the valleys of Kashmir.
Uglies, by Terribly Tiny Tales, is one of those unique productions that will get you hooked to your screens. With eyes always glued onto the screens, this has the magic that very few Indian web series have managed to unfurl. This is impeccable, really amazing and makes you wonder how a thread of personal chat messages weaves in it a story so engaging. The background score is beautifully symphonic with the storyline. Excellent!
The story revolves around the college life of medical students t KIMS in Kolkata. The protagonist, played by Shantanu Maheshwari, having been compelled by his family to study medicine, decides to please a professor of his. What follows is a chaos though, of a type he never had predicted. The best thing about the story is that it doesn't seem going even slightly overboard in its depiction of the many a glamorous ways of the college students. It keeps it a realistic which makes it relatable. Though it tends to come cheeky after a while, it still is a nice one-time watch.
A web series by Ullu Originals, its story revolves around the relationship of a newly-wed muslim couple, Afza and Raahil, initially happy and basking in the sweetness of their new marriage. However, things go sour pretty soon as Raahil, once in a fit of rage, divorces his wife after 'Triple Talaq'. To save his broken marriage, Raahil takes help from his friend, Zaid, for the infamous practice of 'Nikah Halala', wherein a divorced muslim woman has to marry someone else, consummate this farcical marriage and divorce this other guy in order to become a lawful wife of her first husband. It stars Shafaq Naaz, Ravi Bhatia, Ejaz Khan, Neelima Azeem and Deepika Singh Goyal in important roles. The storyline is predictable but your heart goes to the woman, subjected to this brutality in the name of religion. The characters are nice and Shafaq's role is pivotal and does justice , in its own way, to Afza.
What a treat to watch! Mini Mathur and Cyrus Sahukar are good actors that keep the otherwise commonplace script and dialogues from falling apart. The performances are the juggernaut of this show, the 'forty-ish' parents scared of their relationship falling apart, coming to terms with their kids who are growing up fast, making their own relationships, making things awkward at the modern yet typically Indian home. The struggles of their kids seems relatable but the kids themselves managed to get very little screen time. However, it is light hearted and cool, a getaway from the otherwise intense drama series hitting our screens.
Banal, mundane, stupid storyline. The trailer itself is hugely boring, with the lead actor struggling to open a stupid red file for 30 seconds straight. Ughh. When will ZEE start making shows based on good content and good acting? Kunal Khemu struggles with the plot and is boring. Skip this if you have watched too much of this genre. The plot could have been honed if not made excellent.
The giddy, overwhelming teenage love, the infatuations, the 'firsts' of everything forms the base of this story, with the old romantic Bollywood songs forming the foreground and the thralling, captivating teenage years forming the subtle background to this nostalgic story. Typically puerile and 'teenage-y', it represents the circumstances of the quintessential student life well. Overall, a nice show.
Looking for something nostalgic, reminiscences of the past? This is a quintessential college drama, showcasing partying, cheating, fun, relationships, break-ups, everything that the 'cool' kids of the college did. Mind you, not a typical college after all. Anyways, if you're looking for say, an easy watch, go for it.
Vikram Bhatt's Untouchables, directed by his daughter Krishna Bhatt, is apparently based on real life incidents, involving one Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully convicted in the USA. Starring Vikram Bhatt himself as the lawyer, Aakash Awasthi and Shreejita as the medical student turned escort, this revolves around the murder of a powerful man on one eventful night when the escort in question was 'with' him. Naturally arousing suspicions and motivated by vengeance, what follows is a court trial the accused. Overall, a one-time watch I you really wanna watch it.
