Judged by Sunidhi Chauhan, Amit Trivedi and Nucleya, 'The Remix' is an Amazon Originals that offers its viewers with the spectacle of young musicians playing to the tunes of the old Bollywood classics and remixing it with the pop and sensation of the millennial world. Featuring fusions of multiple genres of music, this show is a delight for all those whose very world is defined by mesmerising music. Offering some of the most riveting performances, it's a delight for all.
A story of chance and sheer fate, Soulmates brings to you a refreshing take on romances of this age. The protagonists- Anshul Chauhan and Priyanshu Painyuli meet in the beautiful Shillong, having stumbled upon each other's paths by plain luck. Having been old acquaintances once, they embark known a new journey, far different from their school lives. The story is breezy and beautiful. The picturesque beauty of the Shillong and the background score well-synced-to-the-theme keeps you hooked. Overall, a great watch.
Starring Rajat Barmecha, Tara Alisha Berry and Jaya Bhattacharya, 'Love, Lust Confusion' is the story of Poromo- what she wants to do with herself and her life? So, what does a normal human being with a loving partner want? Drama and lots of cheating to show how bad of a person you're? What the fuck is this show even wanting to portray? It lacks a structured storyline, good acting and most of all basic sense. I just don't get the point of this show. Safe to say, it's just another shitty show that you can be sure to skip without the 'fear of missing out'.
Smashing stereotypes is the need of the hour, ever more so and BLUSH does the job perfectly well. A story of a protagonist who is helped by her friends, fellow women is endearing and a much needed force to break the ingrained ignorance that 'aurat hi aurat ki bushman hoti h'. Growing up, we often realised that how this is an exaggerated and condescending syllogism and how everything doesn't just fit perfectly into this narrow prism of human relationships. It's a breezy and light hearted watch and honestly a unique one of its kind.
Starring Mohammad Samad and Yash Dholye, Selection Day is a story of two cricket prodigies who struggle against their father to play their favourite sport. Considering that not much stuff is made to revolve around sports in the series or shows in Indian entertainment space, except for a few biopics of course, Selection Day is unique in itself and promising too. The acting is great and the show also features the talented Ratna Pathak Shah in one of the key roles. The script could have been a lot better. Better still, it's one the fine specimens of Indian tv shows.
Considering how much fans were angry when HotStar announced a remake of this American classic, I'm going to tread carefully down this path. Honestly, the originals are the best, almost always, barring a few exceptions. Hands down! However, the remakes aren't bad either and HotStar's The Office is one of those good, mind you not better, just a good remake. It's a well adapted Indian version with Mr. Chaddha in place of Michael Scott. A lazy script though. If the creative team had put in some more efforts of building a slightly more original script with still more original dialogues, it would have come out a lot better. This remake, and things couldn't be said more truthfully, wasn't as bad as I had expected.
Often there are times when it has been said loud and clear that overthinking is a part of problems and worst still misunderstandings that creep up unknowingly in relationships can be a cause of wreck and disappointments. You, Me & Galatfehmi is all about that. Starring Naina Sareen, Ashwani Kumar and Aritro Banerjee, its story revolves around the life of Amit and Ritu, the 'Galatfehmi' embodying itself through insecurities and misunderstandings like the wife earning more than the husband and other such things. However, the content isn't new, not something we haven't seen already. The dialogues are just fine and the acting is not promising either. Overall, nice.
Starring Ayan Bhattacharjee, Arjun Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen and Anusha Vishwanathan, The Nightwatchman is a Hoichoi Original that is thrilling and exciting. Not your conventional drama, a fair warning. The script is fine but the acting is good and so is the screenplay. It's intriguing and dark and intense. Also, it's crazy and sometimes psychologically haunting. Overall, a decent enough watch.
'Thinkstan' is set in the colourful advertising world that is apparently not free from the biases imbibed by a common man, almost effortlessly, through time. The class divide particularly, that is perhaps best embodied by the English vs Hindi struggle is at first subtly hinted at and then allowed to form a coherent structure. However, with a good story and brilliant actors like Mandira Bedi, Navin Kasturia and Shravan Reddy, a lot more could have been done yet wasn't. It would have made perhaps one of the best shows, had the script been more nuanced. However, it's still a nice one-time watch.
Revolving around the story of a surgeon, Dr. Mira, whose family is held hostage a night before she is to operate on the chief minister, 'Hostages' is a HotStar Original with an interesting yet unoriginal premise. What follows is an intriguing yet banal unboxing of the conspiracy at hand. Starring Tisca Chopra and Ronit Roy, the series stands strong because of their brilliant acting. Otherwise, with the plot being similarly central to a couple of TV series and even movies, including, an Israeli series by the same name, there wasn't much left to look forward to. But these two anchor the entire storyline and make it worth watching. Overall, a decent one-time watch.
