Shuruaat Laajawaab Hai Iss Saal Ki!
So, 2016 has been started, and the first movie that I watched this year is Wazir, directed by Bejoy Nambiar. The original story has been written by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. And then crafted by Abhijat Joshi.
Film starts with the marriage of Farhan-Aditi and the song Tere Bin. As the song ends, their daughter has ben introduced, and after that she has been killed during a shootout. So, ATS officer Farhan becomes a disturbed man. His wife also leaves him. He is also get suspended from his job. He breaks down. But then Panditji (Amitabh) has been introduced, who is a paralyzed chess grand-master. Their unusual friendship starts. Panditji helps him how to live with that pain, also reunites the couple. Panditji's daughter has been murdered by a political leader. But, the government refuses the fact. It's up to Farhan, to find the truth. In between, the Wazir (Neil) has been introduced, who is too sharp and smart. Will Farhan be able to find Wazir and the truth of that murder, is the question which will be answered in the film.
Bejoy is a kind of the director of Hollywood movies. His films have always something fresh which weren't shown by any other in Indian Cinema. Slow motion scenes are superb. The scene where Intermission has been displayed is one of the bravest one. No complain in direction. Even the film is very short, around 100 minutes. So the length is also a plus point. Editing is also sharp.
Film reaches on the top level with the stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar. Manav Kaul is also one of the finest supporting actors. John's cameo brings cheers in the theater. Neil looks like a villain. And the one and only Aditi Rao Hydari is so so so beautiful. Her costumes, her earrings, her expressions, her eyes full of tears, her eyes full of joy, her eyes full of unspoken words - everything is so perfect that again I fell in love with her. For me, Wazir is the best movie of Aditi till date.
Film narrates the story with the game, chess. So the title is perfectly suitable. Music is a major plus point. Tere Bin is soulful. Maula, Khel Khel Mein and Tere Liye Mere Kareem are good. Tu Mere Paas by Ankit Tiwari is a song which will be going to in your playlist for long. Atarangi Yaari in the end, is a fun to watch with a melodious tune.
Background music is of to mark. The song Aao Huzur played on the piano very beautifully. Dialogues are fabulous. Mohabbat to uss zamane me thi, ab to Love ka spelling bhi badalkar LUV ho gaya hai! Zindagi iss shataranj ki tarah nahi, yahaan Hathi-Ghodo ki jagah Kutte daud rahe hai!
Locations and sets are good. Kashmir looks stunning. Chasing of Farhan on the road of Delhi is breathtaking.
On the whole, go for it. The movie will not disappoint you. It is full of emotions, so go and enjoy this first good movie of this year!

Could have been better
This could have been one of the best movie of the year and I was really excited about it because of the amazing trailer and the strong leading cast. But the movie was full of unnecessary moments and it wasn't as action-packed as seen in the trailer. To it's credit, the story was pretty good and engaging, it did have some really intense moments, the performances by Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar were really great and the finale of the movie is amazing. The finale might be the best thing about the movie. But the whole movie just kept dragging on and the love story between the two Aditi Roy Hydari and Akhtar was sometimes really painful to handle. The movie disappointed me as I was really up for it but it didn't anger me so much. It is still a one time watch because of the climax and the Akhtar-Bachchan chemistry.

Predictable and Slow.
Wazir DVD Review
This contains spoilers.
The premise of this movie is a police officer named Ali loses his daughter to a shootout and befriends that daughter’s old chess teacher and gets mixed up in an old case which has lots of unanswered questions.

First off, the story itself might have been good, but this movie is marred by characters doing illogical things and co-incidences and plot holes.
I mean to say, no father would go chasing terrorists with his daughter in the car. They needed the father to be grieving and blaming himself, but they could have written that scene better.

Then Mr Bachchan’s character Panditji magically knows when to find ali at his weakest and about to commit suicide. He then proceeds to pretend to accidentally drop his wallet, which he hopes he will notice and give back to him.

The plot got so predictable that just post the second phone call from Wazir, it’s obvious that there IS NO Wazir, it’s all a setup.

Then there are Plot holes such as, how does a person with no legs and no terrorist connection manage to get explosives to blow up the van.

How can he change his voice so much as to sound like neil nithin mukesh
When ali was shooting down, john Abraham’s character says, he has a few seconds. Then he proceeds to talk to the girl and embrace her and that takes at least few minutes. Yet no security forces come inside.

All these story and plot issues aside, the acting is decent all over. The heroine in this film has nothing much to do except pout and be upset. Farhan Akhtar does a fine job as a serious officer / grieving father.
The movie fails to live up to its name of Wazir and the mystery of who is this Wazir is not expanded upon. Everything felt rushed and yet the film was sort of slow.

The visuals were sharp and crisp, the score is decent. The Songs slowed the proceedings down, but not for a long time.

Over all this could have been a much better movie, but its sub-par execution left much to be desired.

Rating : 5.5/10. A onetime watch for Amitabh fans and Farhan’s fans.

P.S: That’s TWO movies now, where Amitabh plays the old man who setups up the police to find the real culprit. That’s a strange typecasting! Like how Leo Di Caprio played a grieving husband in Inception and shutter Island in the same year.

Wazir is completely based on terrorism and manipulation. Both the actors are good and have justified their roles up to the mark, action is good the songs are soothing and dialogues are also good and clap-able. Story depicts about the hot blood and a intelligent brain's action which combinedly gives a full dose of action and drama.
