Lush and seductive, yet a tale of hidden melancholy
A typical Woody Allen movie,VCB is very lush and enchanting in its portrayal of honey-tinted summer, picturesque Spanish alleys, and the languid pace of life doused in wine, arts, culture and lovemaking! A tale of two friends, Vicky(Hall) and Cristina(Johansson) who go to Barcelona to spend a holiday, fall prey to the seductive beckoning of love and shimmer of a different life in a strange city. The two women are different from each other in terms of their understanding and beliefs and their responses to life and situations are different. Yet,they are victimized in the same way and are dizzied by the circumstances. Juan Antonio(Bardem) a painter becomes the seductive force which beckons the ladies to discard their reservations and rationality. He is the evil, attractive, serpentine element which lures them. Contradicting this action, the character of Maria Elena(Cruz) descends as the rash voice which constantly tosses the characters into reality but owing to her state of mental imbalance, reality is thoroughly ignored until it hurts.
With a hidden tone of loneliness, and melancholy that realization of reality bestows upon us,VCB is a very good story presented in a very attractive manner. Blending of narratives with brilliant locations and stellar performance from a attractive star-cast,it is one of the most commercially successful Woody Allen movies.

Stunning, romantic and enthralling. Every character will make you want to cry and this is perhaps one of the best written romantic flicks you'll see.
