The Truman Show (1998)

An unnerving film that forces us to question our acceptance of reality, our authenticity and autonomy as people, our consumerist culture, and the ethics of watching people for entertainment. Jim Carrey is incredibly charming and humble as the 'true-man' protagonist. Ultimately what this film left me with was, firstly, a sense of the importance of seeking the truth, and secondly, that people are always more important than entertainment. The real happy ending of this show is that at the end, we really don't know Truman at all, and that is a victory. Extremely well executed, worth rewatching and a definite addition to the 'all time favourites' list.

Anyone who feels caught up in the storm of the world in any way can relate to this movie. Through Truman, we are made aware of how well the ''system'' controls us in the name of protection only to alienate us further. The crazy depth of the purpose of this movie can be seen in every helpless act of the protagonist. One is literally Enlightened after giving this movie a careful watch. It might just change the concept of life and modern-world that your brain holds. Get ready to change. A must watch for those who like movies where universal truth is discussed creatively.

The Truman show has always had a soft spot in my heart since I first saw it and I've only grown to love it more throughout the years. Thought provoking, poignant and heartfelt, the Truman show is a masterpiece and the performance from Jim Carrey is unforgettable, this is hands down his most incredible performance and he simply crushes this role. I don't know who came up with the concept for this film but whoever did deserves an award for giving us this beautiful, touching and unique story. The scenes between Truman and his best friend are heartbreaking and the ending is just flawless. "And in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight, one of the best movie quotes ever. I adore this film with all my heart.

How can you not love this. It's just amazing. I loved the general concept of this film, and I am happy i went it into this with no prayer knowledge other than " people love it". This really is a film the you will love more going in blind. The way our main character (Truman) explorers and discovers the truth of this world was just so satisfying to watch and, how his relationships and knowledge gets tested as he explores this world. Jim Carrey delivers a brilliantly acted thrilling, lively, and dramatic performance as Truman. The music snowballs into an almost action movie sound giving more tension in the third act which brings everything together wonderfully. I mean how can you give this anything lower than 3.5 stars.

Jim Carrey has done more than justice to it as if it were 'The Carrey Show'. Although the final plot is revealed a little too early, the creators have made sure to carefully retain the thrill thus completing its purpose. Overall a beautiful tale written for any type of audience.
