Subtly moving.
A movie based on an unsung hero and the injustice committed against him, The Imitation Game was a movie long overdue in the honor of the late Alan Turing. It has all the makings of a decent biopic. a stellar cast, wonderful production values, Oscar timing, etc.

Benedict Cumberbatch gives the performance of his lifetime. His best one, on par with Sherlock, and even better if you ask me. Rightfully nominated for The Academy Awards, he brings subtlety and enigmatic feel to every move just like the man the role is based upon. He is ably supported by Kiera Knightley, the British beauty who was also nominated for the coveted Gold. Matthew Goode is another revelation.

In spite of the wonderful acting chops and budget, the film's in-your-face screenplay sort of diminishes the impact it could've made with a more ambiguous approach. The movie trades historical accuracy for entertainment quotient, a perfectly sound decision depending on the way to see it. But in my opinion, the movie which is a self-proclaimed biopic, should be more accurate to the real events. For example, the real Alan Turing was never blackmailed by his teammate in lieu of his sexual orientation, nor did Turing trade the country's security in turn for his life. This is a pure insult to the genius of the man. Nevertheless, the movie keeps you engrossed with ample emotional investment that you diss the government for the end they gave to the pioneer of Computers.

If nothing else, Benedict Cumberbatch's moving performance is worth your time. Go watch it.

Benedict Cumberbatch was amazing, as per usual.

I went with a friend who actually works for Microsoft but knew next to nothing about Turing, the story of Enigma and what ended up happening to Turing. She was gutted when the movie finished and so incredulous that he wasn't pardoned until 2013. "That was just less than TWO YEARS ago!" she said.

This is a story that needs to be told, but they do almost make Alan Turing a saint. I seem to remember the Enigma movie had more about affairs he had, which led to him being suspected as a spy. Besides his teenage crush, they make him rather asexual.

Undoubtedly this will be nominated for Best Picture and so will Benedict. In another year, I could see this being an Oscar favorite, but I doubt it will win. Eddie Raymane made such a physical transformation as Hawking -- I see him winning the battle of the brainiacs and Boyhood FTW.

The excellent performance by Cumberbatch in The Imitation game is an elegant demonstration of a race against time which also makes manually breaking code Game somehow makes manually breaking code miraculous.

This beautiful piece of storytelling tells the story of the mathematical genius, Alan Turing, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The gripping story is set in the early 1940s, during the second world war. Britain desperately tries to gain the upper hand in the war and puts together a team with the best cryptographers in the country to decipher German messages which are encrypted with the unbreakable Enigma machine.
Alan and his team, after months of failure, finally calibrate their decoding machine - which he names Christopher, after his childhood crush who tragically passes away - and breaks the Enigma machine. After their success, the team is dissolved and are ordered to never speak of the machine they built or meet each other.

Years later, Alan is charged with "gross indecency" (homosexuality) and is given a choice between a jail sentence and chemical castration; he chooses the latter so as to continue his work. The ending remarks that after a year's hormonal therapy, Alan committed suicide at the age of 41; his work led to the creation of "Turing machines", which we now call computers.
The performances of both Benedict and Keira are an absolute delight, the background music was mirificent and the historical elements were brilliantly portrayed.

All in all, the film is a brilliant piece of art, immortalising the story of a fallen hero.

It is a movie in the world war 2 period but it is not like the other world war movies. It does not show the voilence but the more important work which took place behind the scenes but was more responsible for the culmination of war than any other thing . it takes you to the world of the great scientist Alan Turing and his invention of the turing machine.it is a thrilling story of the breaking down of the biggest weapon at the disposal of the nazi's .
