The Exorcist (1973)

updated
The Exorcist, like most memorable Hollywood movies, gains its power from the way it mixes opposites: new-style realism and sexual radicalism, old-style horror and religion. When I first saw The Exorcist, I saw only the literal side of the story. But as I watched it again, I began to view the movie as a dark fairy tale about a parent whose child is experiencing a painful trauma.

At the time it was released; I was even born to have enjoyed this masterpiece at the theater. I first saw it when I was 12 and it scared the hell out of me! It still does to this day.Starts kinda slow but once it gets going; it doesn't stop until the ending credits. It about a young girl who is possessed by the devil and the battle her family and priests have to go through to get the evil out of her.It still scares to this day because the devil is portrayed very realistically in Linda Blair. Very frightening even after 27 years since its release. Heart-stopping terror at its best. See this one...if you're brave enough

Avant gard for its time. All the demonic possession movies that follow have similar tropes.
