Hatke Abstract film with inspiring message
Movie Review : Tamasha | www.bollyreviewsnow.com
Ratings: 3/5 (Just for the last 30 mins of the film, which delivers an inspiring message)
Tamasha is an abstract, which won't go down easy in your digestive tract. Film starts with a wacky storytelling concept which keeps you bewildered and might be repulsive for some.
I can draw a parallel between Tamasha and a 3 course meal. 1st course is a dubsmash, where video is of 2015 but all the dialogues are from 1970s films (Teja from Zanjeer, Mona Darling). If you can't relate with that era, you won't be able to decrypt the cryptic filmi language. Ranbir extends this character to play Dev Anand and fails miserably in mimicking his mannerism. 1st course lasts for 45 min and is largely unimpressive, far fetched and way too filmy.
2nd course starts with a peppy song "Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai" and the film transitions from a Matargashti to a mushy mushy romance. Plot starts coming on track and looks believable, however this happiness is short lived and what follows is an hour long emotional melodrama. Character sketch of Ranbir is half baked and shifts gears from being a non-conformist of herd mentality ==> battling with internal complex ==> Schizophrenic ==> Wondering what director has in mind ?? Lack of clarity in Director's vision rubs off on lead characters and makes audience scratching their head. You'll also see inspiration derived from Hollywood classic Groundhog Day (1993) in showing routine scenes.
3rd and final course is a short 30 min power packed punch, which explains the mayhem shelved out at audience for last 1 hour 45 min. This is where the message becomes crystal clear and you admire the abstract beginning and director's point of view. However, it is too late and difficult for audience to appreciate the film. Having an awesome dessert doesn't absolve your sins of serving tasteless bland food.
Director Imtiaz Ali is a champion of romance and his effort of delivering an abstract art film fell flat on his face. I can clearly see him bruised and distributors bleeding at the box office. Ranbir Kapoor handled his highly ambiguous characterization very well. Alas, his role is highly confusing for which I won't blame the actor. Deepika Padukone is consistently mediocre without any effort on improvement. Piyush Mishra as storyteller is marvelous and talks in poetic language (as always), which is very classy. I am sure he must have written some of those dialogues as well.
Cinematography by Ravi Varman is impressive but not a differentiator. These days, every film has great photography, locales and sets. Music by AR Rehman is above average with special applause for "Heer Tu Badi Sad Hai". Music in other songs isn't impressive but none of the songs are forced and very situational. I loved the spread of singers ranging from Mohit Chauhan, Mika, Lucky Ali, Arijit Singh, Sukhinder Singh to AR Rehman himself. Wow!
Verdict: Definitely a hatke film as poster says, Why always the same story? It could have been a wonderful film if it was executed well. Don't go to theater expecting a lighthearted fun filled romantic film. This film might leave you a little heavy. Message delivered in the end is indeed inspiring.

It's a timepass movie with the same old concept of people meeting, parting and finally a happy reunion. But what is inspiring is the background concept of how one can only excel if they love their work. The locations are beautiful and amazingly shot. Ranbir and Deepika are very convincing in their roles. One time watch. Also a must watch for this gen parents!

Tamasha, is a masterclass. Layered, deep, entertaining, one that puts out the inner game with the "simple complexity", intensity and soul. Revoves around the central character Ved (symbolically all of us) who's trying to be someone's he's not but eventually he meet's his soulmate who make's him realise his self.
Imtiaz Ali has been able to capture the nuances of confusion/ complexity, its roots which is actually the most common struggle of the human race yet finally unravelling its true self...the journey had to have tamasha it needed the drama filtering..polishing..realising has never been a cake walk.

A MUST WATCH

You are here to create you own story, just live your character!
Dil Ka Bhanwar Kahe Sun Saathiya, Chhup Na Dupatte Me Tu O Chhaliyaa... That's it! The entire film was made on this basis. The moral of the movie is -Not to hide yourself, and do whatever your heart wants to do. People, who judge you and tell you that you are mad, don't panic, you are not here to live their characters. You are here to tell your own story, to live as you want, to act as you wish. Never kill your inner child!
Imtiaz Ali is my 'the most favorite director'. So, may be you find this review bias. But, this is my opinion, and I just loved the movie.
All the Ranbir Kapoor fans out there, will surely love this character, Ved & even Don. As Roy and Bombay Velvet didn't go well, I was not sure about this. But the house-full show speaks a lot! Nobody can plays Ved like him. Welcome back RK! Dipika's pair with Ranbir is off course fabulous. But, I don't find any scene of her in which she is doing an outhouse acting. She is obviously good, but, after I saw her in Piku, I was in search of more from her. Piyush Mishra acts like a boss. Little Ved is a perfect cast as he looks like Ranbir. Others are suitable. Special mention for the rikshawwala who sings Wat wat song!
No complain in music, as the composer is Rahman. Lyrics has been penned by Irshad Kamil. To feel the music, particularly in Imtiaz's films, I don't listen the songs without watching the movie. And this helps me to reach at the highest level of happiness which a song can be able to give. Heer is my favorite. Punjabi folk singers rock the scene. Matargashti is a fun song by Mohit Chauhan. Alka Yagnik's mesmerizing voice is too good with Arijit in Agar Tum Saath Ho. Tu Koi Aur Hai is what the perfect song has to be or you can say the main song of the movie. Chali Kahani and Safarnama are listenable.
I miss Anil Mehta, the D.O.P. in all previous projects of Ali. I don't know why the camera has been given to Ravi instead of him. Though Ravi has done a superb job. In my favorite scene, I would say, the stairs in the song Matargashti. Even whole Corsica is eye freshener. But, then also, the magic of Anil Mehta is missing.
Film's concept is actually came from Imtiaz's brother Akiv Ali. Though, Imtiaz has written it superbly. There are so many scenes in which I could relate myself. The major one is talking with ourselves through mirror. Every Imtiaz Ali film has some new ways to describe the past activities, this time too he brings a cool idea for that.
One thing I noticed that because of doing some years in theater, particularly the struggling days, somehow the love for the theater is still alive in Imtiaz, and that's the reason why he chooses the stage play act in the movie. Another thing I noticed that after the films like Rockstar & Highway, where the story was not ending, Ali has changed the end of this movie, like he had done before in Jab We Met & Love Aaj Kal.
So, on the whole, whatever critics or RJs are saying, watch it if you like Imtiaz Ali's movies. Kapoor's fantastic performance will never let your mood of. If you think you are not doing what you like, or if you are not be able to find out yourself, then please watch this and get inspire. The ten minutes long story which Ved tells to his family in the climax steals the show. It's okay to live a life that others don't understand. You are here to live as you want, not as someone else wants. Just be you, and the right things will start to happen. Find the reason why you are born, and then go for it. At the initial stage, you may witness some troubles, some negative incidents, but, just don't stop your journey, don't try to change yourself. Just be consistence, and the happy times will surely come!

TAMASHA MOVIE REVIEW SWARESH S LIMAYE
RATING – *** 3.0/5.0
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone
Direction: Imtiaz Ali
Genre: Romance
Duration: 2 hours 34 minutes
`Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet` the saying is totally appropriate when it comes to TAMASHA. Like his previous movies, IMTIAZ ALI begins a new story with his own style of presenting picturesque locations. This time the destination is CORSICA where 2 strangers meet with fake identities.
If you are expecting something new from IMTIAZ , he has very little to offer. To elaborate, story is simple but presented in a complicated manner. The overall message is appreciable but initially you may get bored due to the slow pace of the film. In the first half its only the beauty of Corsica that keeps you in place amidst some crazy acting. Music is good but one expects more from A R RAHMAN.
As said earlier patience pays off. The real story grips when VED & TARA meet in Delhi. RANBIR & DEEPIKA take control of the movie further trying to compensate for a weak story and direction. They prove yet again that their chemistry is evergreen and have a great command when it comes to acting.
The movie is all about RK who`s emotions, acting & behavior is believable and keeps you engrossed post interval . He manages the 2 personalities with finesse . Deepika lends the perfect supports and again reminds that she is one of the top contenders when it comes to beauty.
Overall it is a creative attempt by IMTIAZ . Its not a comedy ride but a TAMASHA of emotions & aspirations. You can watch once for RK , DP and to visit CORSICA virtually.
All in all a ** movie but a * extra for RANBIR ? the inspirational DON.

"Producers in for a rude tamasha at the box office!!!"
In all likelihood, the film should be able to garner a decent initial though how it fares depends solely on the multiplex audience. Unluckily for the makers, the film is unlikely to appeal to the audience which will hamper it's gross collections. In short, the lead pairs are fantastic but that doesn't quite salvage the movie!!!

Not The Same Old Story.
Imtiaz Ali is known for his unique style of filmmaking. His movies are often complex which are not everyone's cup of tea. Tamasha is one of them. This story revolves around Ved who is submerged into stories since childhood. He lives every moment of the stories. Often, he got confused because according to him all stories are the same. Be it is Ramayana, Romeo-Juliet, Heer-Ranjha or any other story, he believed all are the same. He is shown as a story addict who wants to be a narrator and pursue the field of acting. Due to peer pressure, he is forced to do engineering. Hence, all his dreams are shattered. His complex character is the result of all the unfair and unwanted things which were forcefully brought into his life. He meets Tara. Like every other story, they fall in love. Followed by a 'Judaai' phase, it's not the love story but one's dream and career which Ali focusses on and for that he deserves applause. The theme is that all the stories are the same, but the ending is in our own hands. We are all actors who are playing their respective roles in life. So if we want we may change our story and live happily. It is a must watch for one and all who think Bollywood is running short of concepts. Why Always The Same Story?

Those who went for prem ratan did injustice to Indian cinema while Tamasha was showing in the next screen. It's much better than any of those khan movies earning 100+ crore.

Thought Provoking!
Tamasha opens in Corsica, France where Ved meets Tara and they decide to spend a week together without telling each other who they really are and decide to never meet after that. They have the time of their life there and then they just go back to their respective lives. Years later, Tara runs into Ved only to realize he's someone else.
A must watch for people of all ages to realize that we're just going through our routine lives set out for us without realizing who we really are.

Ultimate movie! Don returns! A complete pack of romance, comedy, love and friendship. They say it right that it all starts with frindship. Every story is not the same. Great piece of work by Ranbir & Deepika.

First half of the movie was disappointing to no extent. Except the parts where they showed Corsica, which is an absolutely beautiful place. Kudos on the virtual tour, Imtiaz! As the movie proceeded, I could see what all the buzz was about. Sheer brilliance shown by Ranbir Kapoor, with those close-to-perfection acting skills. Thanks to Tamasha, we have almost forgotten that he did a movie like Besharam (Mind you, ALMOST!). Deepika Padukone has perfected the art of looking drop-dead gorgeous in each of her movies (yes, I am a little biased towards her, but come on, who isn't!?). I thought DP's character (Tara) was a little neglected in the movie, but since the limelight was on RK (Ved) throughout, it seemed to pan out well.
Overall, I would say, it is relatable on some level (especially if you're an engineering student, LOL).
A little clich

The movie is very enjoyable and the location are splendid. Though the story is a bit repetitive. The acting is just mind blowing. The male actor, Ranbir Kapoor, meets the female actress, Deepika Padukone in Corsica. They promise to lie to each other about their identities. They have huge amount of fun in Corsica. The story then goes back to the childhood of Ranbir Kapoor. They promise to not meet each other but they meet in Delhi again as designed by the destiny. Ranbir gets an engagement ring for Deepika but deepika rejects telling that he wasn't the same person she met in Corsica. For the rest please watch the movie.
