3/5
Talvar is a thriller film based on Arushi Talwar murder case. It is however not one of those gripping murder mysteries which will keep you on the edge of your seats. But, it is a disturbing documentary which exposes the flaws, inefficiencies and corruption in Indian legal system. How, CBI is more concerned about professional rivalry and ego rather than focusing on punishing the guilty. It also highlights the influences of media on everyone. How media is quick to jump on conclusion even before the verdict in court? How media can create a bias even for investigating officers. Irrfan said a beautiful line in film, We people first decide on who is guilty then we try to find motives and evidences to frame him.
This was one of the tough films to make, since so much has been said about this case in media. It doesn't have much scope for creative freedom. Yet, if Meghana Gulzar chose to take this challenge, she should have lived up to audience expectations. I wasn't entertained by watching this film, but definitely it informed me about the case clearly like a well made documentary. Screenplay and editing were 2 weak areas, which could have been done better. I strongly feel that if Vishal Bhardwaj would have directed it as well, he would have done a much better job.
This film has some impressive ensemble like Neeraj Kabi, Konkona and Tabu. All these great actors were wasted in the film due to lack of much screen presence. Irrfan is the only reason, why someone might appreciate this film. He is a marvel, who can make any role lively even within such limited scope. Thank God, film didn't have any songs as they would have completely killed the fast pace of film.
Some people might argue that film should not have taken sides with one group of suspects. But, I think of it as director's cut and her version of story which she believed in. Unfortunately, media is too influential in our country and most of the audience would also believe in this version of truth. Does that influence actual proceedings of the case? It would be interesting to watch how it turns out to be.
Verdict: Watch it as a documentary and not as a film. It will leave you with a heavy heart and disturbed mind, so watch it at your discretion.
Ratings: 3/5 ( Film can not have a drag and has to be entertaining, period. If it was a news documentary, then I would have given 5/5)

Must Watch
Talvar, directed by Meghna Gulzar is one of the best movie of 2015. The movie shows us three different perspectives of one of the most shocking crime cases in India. The story by Vishal Bharadwaj is brilliant. And the performances by Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Neeraj Kabi is just top-notch. This is a must watch.

A true film, even Excellent is a very small word!
Based on Arushi Talwar's murder case. Written by Vishal Bhardwaj. Directed by Meghna Gulzar. Starring Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma & Niraj Kabi.
I was not aware of what was happened to Arushi. I only knew that her parents have been proved guilty and they are still in jail. But this film describes something else. And after watching the movie, I can't imagine the life of her parents.
Pannel Discussion scene is one of the best scene I've seen this year. Serious topic with a light humor, is Vishal's cup of tea.
Irrfan can do everything. Neeraj Kabi is growing faster and faster. What should I say about Kankana! Tabu has a cameo too.
Music by Vishal and Lyrics by Gulzar. Insaaf is the perfect song. No background music makes the movie real. Just a one superb background score, during the scene of murder.
I have never seen any movie, in which the audience is sitting so quietly and enjoying, as this is not for single screen type audience. People are changing, so it's a good hope for the better Indian cinema.
I've read in some of reviews that the movie is very disturbing. I found it too. Questions and questions are there in my mind. With an addition of sorrow. One poor mistake of policeman leads the case to nowhere. Just watch it and it will come in your thoughts for some days for sure. Not writing much, as I've to come out from the film.

Never before seen grit in Indian Cinema.
Making a movie on real-life incidents is a huge gamble in itself. Making a movie on an ongoing legal case? Criticizing the government in it? Welcome to Talvar.

It is based on the famous 2008 Noida Double Murder Case. (Names changed in the movie) Aarushi Talwar and the housemaid Hemraj were killed in the same night. The film deals with the investigation undertaken by the CBI in this matter.

Irrfan Khan is widely regarded as one of the best actors the country has ever seen, and you can see it why in this movie. He brings sly humor into the realistic world of the film and brings out the frustrations sincere officers have on their governments. Tabu cameos as his wife. Prakash Belawedi has an interesting character offering an entirely different chain of events, and he performs the role with ease. But the breakout stars of the movie are Neeraj Kabi and Konkana Sen Sharma, who portray Nupur and Rajesh Talwar as realistically as they can possibly be. They transform effortlessly between the various shades of the characters, carrying out the positive and negative vibes seamlessly. Gajraj Rao too steals the show as the negligent cop.

Making a film based on real events is a huge gamble especially in India, where people's religious and political frenzies are triggered easily. Meghna Gulzar took this gigantic challenge as her debut, and boy does she do it perfectly. The screenplay sometimes echoes a "Sorkinian" fatigue, which is a good thing to replicate. She easily offered one of the best debuts India has ever seen and gave the movie the very grit which defined the real-life case. This level of realism, never before on Indian Cinema, paid off as the movie was a critical and commercial hit.

This was a movie which affected me like no other, Hollywood included. Indian needs more movies like this.

"Razor sharp screenplay which give us a lump in our throats!!!"
As per the latest box office reports, the movie has done exceedingly well & it seems to be going steady inspite of new releases. It's a well crafted movie & deserves all the applause coming its way. There is no doubt that the makers have given a clear indication as to what they think about the Talwar's involvement in the double murder. We can only hope that justice is served as soon as possible after all it's been about seven years now. As for the movie, no need for second thoughts...just go for it !!!

The Sword Is Mightier Than The Pen.
Could have been better if the original facts weren't diluted by debutant Meghna Gulzar. Nevertheless, it's a must watch. You are bound to like this movie if you crave fir artistic Bollywood cinema.
Lastly, I would like you to watch Rahasya which stars Kay Kay Menon and is based on the same story as Talvar. The major difference is that Rahasya is a RAW film but Talvar is diluted as the original family themselves gave the story rights to the makers of Talvar.

Talvar is one of the best thriller movie of 2015.The movie was directed by Meghna Gulzar, starring Irrfan Khan,Konkana Sen Sharma,Neeraj Kabi.It is based on Arushi Murder case. While the case was going on the people were unable to think who is guilty. But when I saw this movie it totally showed me different perspective of same case. The movie has described the indian legal system with three things-egoisim,professional rivalry and honorary position. The role of media is to create awareness and to show unbiased news. But in case of arushi murder case media literally made it a scandal. The movie is very #thoughtProvoking and .This movie has some very nice dialogue like the one which was said by irrfan in panel discussion-Kisi bhi begunha ko sazaa milne se achha hai ki dus gunhegar shoot jaye. This dialogue makes you feel disturebed.

Verdict-A must watch movie
