Reviews & Ratings for
Raabta (2017)

Rohon Nag reviewed Raabta
Magadheera LITE Aka Bhag Jaa!
What happens when you take,
1. 2 plot points from Magadheera (& the basic general idea)
2. 1 Character (khal Drogo) from game of thrones
3. Add in a bit of modern age Bollywood rom-com
4. A half baked script with multiple dead ends.

The answer is obviously Raabta.
I LOVE reincarnation stories, from Karz to Magadheera I must have seen them all.
This movie although takes elements from the most common clichés, it doesn’t manage to put them in place properly.

The good parts of the movie is Sushant singh rajput’s modern day avatar’s acting. It keeps the film going. Kriti Sanon is really good looking, her acting is a bit lacking, but so is her character.

Spoilers ahead.

The villain is like a mix of Joker from Dark Knight and Shah Rukh Khan from Darr, and he is REALLY bad.
The acting is so over the top that it looks like he is in a different film from the other two leads.

Plot wise, the film tries to do what magadheera did, but SO halfheartedly that it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Some things make no sense, proving the director is a class a moron. In one scene towards the end the hero and heroine are bantering while on the run, when suddenly they are shot at with automatic guns. But 2 scenes ago, the villain shot dead one of his henchmen for shooting a gun at the heroine, because he obviously wants her alive. So why will the henchmen now shoot hundreds of bullets at the pair?

The climax is sudden and half-baked too. They intercut the past’s ending and present repeatedly as if the audience has forgotten that they saw those scenes barely 15 minutes ago.
Coming to the part of the film which shows their previous lives:
OH boy is this embarrassing. They try to go more game of thrones than Mahabharat, everyone is shown as savages, the war scene involves 10 people fighting near a waterfall. The dialogs trying to show olden times is complete gibberish and the audience started leaving in those scenes…

I tried hard to not compare this film to Magadheera, but they are two VERY similar subject films, but with totally different treatments. The reason magadheera worked was because it was over the top, it was grand and the past scenes were simply amazing (i.e before baahubali came out).

This film is SO lacking that it doesn’t even use it own title track properly, the background music is lacking, the title theme is not used at all dramatically. All in all, the theater was empty on a Saturday afternoon. This film is a flop and deserves to be one.

Verdict: Lack of imagination, awkward romance, over the top idiotic villain, does not a good reincarnation movie make…

Rating: 4/10. Hard to see it one time. DIE hard fans of Magadheera and KArz and other such films might be interested to see it, but my advice:
SKIP IT and watch it on DVD or HOTSTAR, or Netflix or amazon prime. Whatever.

P.s: the two songs ik baari aaja and the raabta title track are really amazing songs. Sad that they are wasted on such a bad film.

Annoying story line with bad characters
(The following review contains spoilers)

Raabta is a Fantasy Romance film directed by Dinesh Vijan starring Sushant Singh Rajput as Shiv, Kirti Sanon as Saira and Jim Sarbh as Zakhir Merchant.

The film is extremely annoying and starts off on a cliched tone. Shiv, a Punjabi guy, gets a job at a bank in Budapest (Cliche: Punjabi's always shifted abroad for work). Shiv's character is shown to be a very chilled out, flirtatious guy, flirting with every girl he meets with almost deadly and bad pick up lines which surprisingly makes him a 'crowd puller.'
Saira is a chocolatier in Budapest and almost randomly meets Shiv at her shop. The conversation they have subtly hints at a more deeper relationship they shared, at least tries to. Saira's character is very dumb compared to the personality of Kirti Sanon.
Saira and Shiv are seen to get closer two days into their meet, because of a said 'Connection' they share. It should also be noted here that Shiv's jokes and pick up lines gets increasingly annoying and headache inducing. Saira is seen to have night terrors about drowning and is evidently shown to be hydrophobic.

The movie is very much obsessed with water and is shown very excessively without much logic.

Jim Sarbh is the villain of the story. His character is a multi-millionaire who was connected to Saira through the past connection shown in parts through Saira's night terrors. Zakir tells Saira about their past connection, and we are thrown back into another flashback explaining the connection of these individuals to each other.

In my opinion, there were a lot of things that went horribly wrong for Raabta. For one, the actors were trying hard to fit into characters that were different from who they are as a person. The entire plot could have been shortened if the main back story was narrated in a better way.
Kirti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput failed to create sparks and were dull on screen. As for Jim Sarbh, compared to his acting in A death in the Gunj, he seemed very robotic here.
Coming to the back story, the back plot is filled with cliches about reincarnation, a theme which is ever so common in Bollywood apart from that, character portrayals were hilarious and Shiv's past life character bore a striking resemblance to the game Far Cry 3's villain 'Vaas.' Some of the fight scenes seemed to be a copy of Tollywood hit 'Magadheera.' The background music too does not match the specific situations and failed to wow me in any way.

The film promised to deliver hits but failed with its uninteresting plot line, annoying dialogues and draggy story. The only proper thing about the movie was the music.
I would not suggest you watch the film, as the only thing you'll be taking away from it is a head splitting headache and regrets.

Romance Timepass
I didn’t LOVE Raabta as much as Margaret of Don’t Call It Bollywood did, but it was a welcome couple hours of escape for me this weekend. We have a family member that has just been put into hospice, and this movie took me away to beautiful Budapest for a bit. Several shirtless scenes of Sushant also helped very much, the first in the very first minute of the film.

As Margaret said, it’s Magadheera, but totally different. If you want an action film, go see Magadheera. But Raabta is a timepass romance with some angst.

Wanna kill someone? make him/her watch this movie. And you need not to wait till the end for that person to die, first 30 minutes, brain dead and next 20 heart fail.
took me 3 days to overcome this disaster. Was expecting something good from Sushant Singh Rajput like MSD but he gave me a mini heart attack in the form of this movie. People were fighting in the audi where i was watching this movie and believe me that was way more entertaining than what was going on over that big screen. That 5 minute deepika padukone was all where i was awake and that's it.
i personally tweeted both the actors for a refund of 200 bucks. so now you guys know when to watch it, never.

Only reason to watch this movie is the chemistry to sushant Singh and kirti sanon. But story is week as this story looks familiar to us,as we might have watched it before. So real movie lover waste of money.
