Watch it if you want to see something different
With so much of hype around Piku, I had a peek of the flick this weekend. It is one of those recipes which has all the necessary ingredients but doesn't leave you with a lasting aftertaste. On top of it, entire movie is about the grand quest to seamless bowel movement. Please avoid any popcorns or sandwiches during the movie.
Amitji has played the role of an extremely irritating father. As anyone would have expected, he played this role to perfection with a constipated look and eyeballs bulging out of sockets. Irrfan's role looked very restrained and it was like a Ferrari driving at 40 km/hr. There is so much more to this actor which didn't come out. Deepika had to just look beautiful in different attires, give her dimpled smile, roll her eyes and yell at Amitji in a monotonous syllable. Nothing really great.
Full marks to Juhi Chaturvedi for spinning a fresh story. Shoojit Sircar kept the mood of movie subtle without any dramatically overwhelming melodrama. Anupam Roy has composed some soothing numbers which are good to play in car on a nice drive. I have seen him live in one of the plays and he has a long way to go. When the movie starts, an appealing Bengali musical tune gets played in the background of casting. If I find it somewhere, that is going to be the next ringtone of my phone.
Overall a different movie, very nice attempt but nothing outstanding. I can compare this movie to Indian film The Bong Connection for some parts. However, I feel that Bong Connection did a much better justice of being closer to the roots.
Verdict: Watch it if you want to see something different without any expectations. There isn't anything better in theaters anyway.

This movie reminds us of our relationships with our parents.
Our city lifestyle and our roots , how we bind them . Its not about some fantasy we all desire but just how life really is .

Shoorjit Sircar puts together a great trio of wonderful actors for this wonderful film which is definitely going to make you feel good even though most jokes in the movie revolve around poop.

Great watch
Piku, directed by Shoojit Sircar brings out the bonding between father and his daughter. The character of the daughter, Piku (portrayed by Deepika Padukone) who works as an architect stays in Delhi with her ageing father (portrayed by Amitabh Bacchchan) shows how the father is dependent and attached to Piku- it might looks complaining and nagging but that is how exactly all the fathers are, who suddenly decides to go to Kolkata by road (as train might disrupt his bowel movement). And Piku had to agree to it, as her baba would not let go without persuasion. With the beautiful songs by Anupam Roy, splendid acting of these finest actors brings out the life of the movie. It literally soaks you in the constant journey of bickering and the love (which is subtle) makes you want to love your parents more and more.

Delightful
Piku is a drama-comedy with a spectacular cast, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Irfan Khan and Moushumi Chatterjee. This is the story of an independent thirty-year-old woman, confronting all social norms as she stomps through life, in control and maybe a little overbearing. She shoulders responsibility for her business and her father, along with those she doesn't seem to relate to. The story engages you in a distinct father-daughter relationship where traditional roles are reversed. Piku is someone who accepts no other authority than her father's and is a splendid depiction of an accomplished woman. Her character and her relationship with her father is further explored with a trip they take to their native town. Irfan Khan adds to the mix a simple, burdened yet soft character. You only see a hint of romance between Piku and him, which is too complicated a subject for both of them. The movie brings to fore multiple aspects of each of the characters, where you see pieces of yourself and those around you very strongly. I think that's what makes this movie all the more special.

"This bowel sound will endear to the audience!!!"
Just like "Vicky Donor", this will also grow on the audience with time & will thrive on the positive word of mouth which its likely to garner in abundance. It might seem a bit off-beat but you can rest assured that you will be thoroughly entertained. In short, don't miss this bowel movement!!!
