पहेली (2005)

This is a fantasy Indian film, based on a short story folktale. Shahrukh Khan plays a double role, a callous distracted bridegroom who leaves his bride on his wedding night for a five year business trip, and a ghost spirit who takes his place because he loves Lachchi, the bride.

The title means "riddle" or "enigma". This movie is really about a woman's choice and agency. The ghost is honest with Lachchi as to who he is, and he is the first person to ask what SHE wants.

Amitabh Bachchan plays the wise shepherd who solves the dilemma of who is real when the husband returns and can't convince his parents he is their real son.

I love this film to pieces, and it may be my new favorite SRK movie, and that's really saying something. The music and dances aren't exceptional for the most part, but the final puppet dance choreographed by Farah Khan is a delight. Buying the DVD!
