Reviews & Ratings for
Madras Cafe (2013)

I Am DB reviewed Madras Cafe
For those movie critics who probably held their heads in "sigh" after watching Chennai Express, Madras Cafe stands as a nice change. I would also like point out that if one omits the 3k million grosser masala movie, Bollywood has, this summer leaped into lessening its rift from hollywood by the likes of movies like Ship of Theseus and Madras Cafe.

The Movie is "Seedhi BAAt no Bakwaas", with no songs or cheesy lines while rolling and hence the fast pace keeps you engrossed and gives you relatively lesser time to check out stranger girls sitting close to you. If you are much prone to masala flicks you may find the story hard to catch up. Also John Abraham acts as the line of control that prevents this movie to fall into the category of a documentary. Nargis Fakhri looks convincing enough, while the acting overall is above par. Shoojit Sircar is definitely a talented director and raises hopes for a much intelligent Bollywood.

Paisa wasool. Nice direction. A different hatke story and the movie sticked to what it intended to show. Best thing is, no unnecessary songs in the movie.

I knew zero about the Sri Lankan civil war. John Abraham sure picks very interesting producing projects. The opening war scenes were very powerful, and John Abraham acts very well in this movie.

Unfortunately, the supporting actors were not all as good, and their sometimes wooden acting took me out of the film at times.

The scenario of the film was very complex and difficult for me to understand occasionally, but the spy part was an effective thriller.

"Impressive concoction of fact & fiction!!!
With "Chennai Express" bull dozing forward, "Madras Cafe" would find the going tough. It's unlikely to cater to the single screens but thanks to the impressive content & execution it should have a decent run in the multiplexes. In short, delve into this without fail!!!

A great film in years, yes we can make a movie like Munich and Argo.
The subject is controversial(I need to read more about it btw) , but handled greatly.
An edge of seat, fast paced, practical,no nonsence thriller.
Go for it.

It is one of few or the only Indian political espionage worth watching. With practically no songs and taking John Abraham beyond topless, Shoojit Sircar have done justice to movie. Its ambitious and no-nonsense film by Bollywood.
