Revenge classique
Shahid Kapoor is in best form. He rocks in both of his roles, as a student and a psychopath. The plot is very relevant to the scenario in Kashmir, and Vishal Bhardwaj beautifully sews it into a full fledged perfect plot. Kay Kay Menon rocks in his role, not to be discussed here. Tabu is again magnifique. She conveys her emotions perfectly. The direction, cinematography is top notch. The songs could have been more mesmerizing. But overall, the film is a classique.

This is only my second film of Vishal Bhardwaj (I also have seen the dark comedy 7 Khoon Maaf) and he is already one of my favorite Indian directors. I can't wait to see Maqbool and Omkara.

Haider is an amazing modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet set in Kashmir in 1995. Shahid Kapoor transforms himself like I have never seen him before. This is a career best performance as he shows Haider's descent into madness.

The acting all around is stellar, and Irrfan Khan plays a special role as the "ghost" militant leader who carries a message from Haider's father. There is only one dance sequence, the song Bismil which I have been playing nonstop for at least a month. The director chose Bismil as the play within the play that Hamlet uses to show his uncle's guilt. It's wonderfully choreographed and a very, very effective scene at the wedding of his mother and uncle.

A special comic touch was the creation of Salman and Salman, Salman Khan fanatics, in the stead of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Loved them. Most all of the elements of the play have been included (To be or not to be is in there, the skull is in there), but with Bhardwaj's special touch. Recommend this film very highly.

One of the best of 2014.
I went in to watch Haider without any real expectations. I was blown away. The grim and realistic portrayal of Kashmir's problems really struck a chord.
This is undoubtedly Shahid Kapoor's best performance, and Tabu is great, as always.
Haider for me is one of the best bollywood movies of the last decade.

New concept
This is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet', Haider - a young man returns home to Kashmir on receiving news of his father's disappearance. Not only does he learn that security forces have detained his father for harboring militants, but that his mother is in a relationship with his very own uncle. Intense drama follows between mother and son as both struggle to come to terms with news of his father's death. Soon Haider learns that his uncle is responsible for the gruesome murder, what follows is his journey to avenge his father's death

Haider blowed up all the bollywood movies from its screen play.Though dialogues did not add an ingredient to this movie,Shahid and shradda made a starring job in this play.It has been known as best screen play. And It seems like a usual Vishal bharadwaj's movie, not a unique one.

Note to Bollywood: This is how to do adaptations.
First off, the talented star cast. As always, none of them disappoint. Mind-blowing, intense dialogue delivery, Lovely use of Urdu that makes even vengeance sound like beauty, Shahid Kapoor's post-intermission monologue is just paisa vasool, The song and dance routines are something you don't wanna miss out on and all of this makes the gore entirely worth it. Also, if you thought Kaminey was good, This, this is brilliant!

One time watch
Haider, the movie is about the protagonist "Haider" (shahid kapoor) who is in search of his dad, who was abducted by the Army.
The movie discusses the issues prevailing in the border. There are no sudden twists and turns to make it interesting.
But yes, would definitely suggest it for a one time watch

Its an intense political thriller based on Shakespeare's hamlet. Movie in itself is brilliant thought its something you want to watch for diversity in your movie collection. Something to avoid if you are looking for a light entertaining weekend.

Vishal Bhardwaj did the magic again. Nice blend of Hamlet in Kashmir issue. Awesome cinematography and camera shakes. Shahid seemed an opt choice. Roohdar's entry was great. And of course, stunning Tabbu steals the show!!

Acting, story and everything technical is good... But it's not for a light watch..... The violence was sometimes disturbing :-|

@abhinav It was appropriate as far as I think. The movie required it. Infact, the director hinted a little of Oedipus Complex too, to the extent possible.
