This comedy-drama film starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni, and Dimple Kapadia was the very first film written and directed by Farhan Akhtar. Farhan Akhtar manages to prove his ingenious abilities in his very first creation.The movie mainly focuses on the transitions in the lives of three best friends. The movie is a compilation of silly rolling on the floor comedy and sensible messages. If you have been against commitment in romantic relationships, you'll give it another thought after watching this. Mainly set in Urban Mumbai, Goa and Sydney, the movie locations are kept simple, serene yet beautiful.Although most of the movie is wrapped with humor, the movie conveys its message. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have done a fairly good job in the music department.
No matter where you come from, this national award winner is a must must watch for all!

The film is a cult classic and revolves around the metamorphisms of life.

I watched this film a decade ago. It was even better rewatching it than I remembered. All three actors are excellent, but Aamir Khan is simply amazing. I appreciate this even more now having seen him in other films.

Farhan Akhtar is such an amazing talent and this film is such a modern classic. I enjoy his action films, but the writing in Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara are really something special.

Glad I was able to catch this before Netflix took it off it's streaming service.

It shows every little problem that a 20's something faces in life. The movie is very true to it's title. There is everything we aspire for; luxury and no work. Then comes the part where responsibilities kick in and LOVE. It's every ''adults-for-quite-a-while'' life story in a nutshell.

A trend changing movie, which gives a freshness and joy. A movie which can't be missed to watch with friends. It describes all the sides of friendship, has good comedy.humour,love and emotion.

The Akhtar siblings are spot-on,when it comes to movies on friendships and coming to terms with life! Dil Chahta Hai,was one of the pioneers in the genre where friendships,maturity,love and reality were woven in a smooth fabric.They nurtured three separate set-ups of mind,yet were inseparable in their camaraderie. Once they are done with the college-farewell party,their paths begin to separate and so does their choices. Aakash(Amir) is the rich heir who is sent to Australia when his parents find him not serious about his whereabouts. Akash keeps on bumping into Shalini(Preity) whom he finds himself attracted to,and he has a lot of challenges ahead if he has to win her over. On the other hand, there is Sameer(Saif),the funnyman in the group who is sensitive enough to fall in love every second and then stupid enough to be fooled by the women. His parents are trying to fix his match with a girl,Sonali(Sonali Kulkarni) whom he finds attractive,yet she is disinterested. And the complication in the life of Sid is even more compelling as he finds himself immensely drawn towards an older woman,(Dimple) a relationship,no one approves.
With the sudden changes in lifestyle, coupled with alienation, heartbreak, complications, ,relationships these young boys from college gradually get acquainted with reality and learn to embrace life with matured outlook. They submit themselves to their passions and learn to extract every bit of happiness from given opportunities-they struggle to cope with what their hearts want(dil chahta hai). This journey makes the story beautiful and strikes chord with the audience, both the young and the matured alike. Very very touching,all the performances and the music.
