Bajirao Mastani (2015)

First of all, let me clarify one thing that I'm not a fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So, this is a very genuine review of his latest film.
Story is based on Bajirao and Mastani's love story. History is somehow different, but, the film is classic. The sets and costumes of Bhansali's film are always wonderful. This time I found thet the major plus point of the film is dialogues. Though performances wise, all the actors have done a great job. But, then also, the impact of the dialogues is very much high. I remember that I used to say something as the appreciation in every two-three minutes, because every one is delivering sharped and pointed one liners. Which can attack you on your head but leaves the scratches in your heart.
Music is wonderful. Because of the promo song of Deewani Mastani which was used to be shown in the theater before the release, has made me to watch this on the silver screen. Pinga is also a delight watch. Remo has choreographed it really well. Aayat is nice. The new version of Albela Sajan is also there. Malhari is very energetic. I don't like only Mohe Rang Do Laal. I think most of the viewers may get bore during that song. Lyrics are suitable.
Ranveer Singh has delivered an award winning performance. May be this year, all awards will be given to him, as I don't know any other good male competitor is there, except Sushant for Bakshy. I don't like Deepika, so if I write something about her, you may get angry on me. I like Priyanka, and she has given a fine supportive performance. Though, I want to see more, but, she is perfect in this role, as it has many shades of an Indian woman. Tanvi Aazmi as Bajirao's mother, has given a powerful performance. All the others are suitable. Irrfan's magical voice is there, too.
Scenes are very dramatic as well as real. So, you may find that it is just a story, but, will definitely connect with the characters as the film runs. I don't find it boring. May be first half is slightly longer. Climax is superb. There is some emotional touch in it that my eyes get wet.
Sanjay has given a super-hit movie. It's up to public now. Skip Dilwale. Go and watch this, you will love it for sure. May be I'll go for the second time, too. As Bhansali Ne Public Ko Movie Dee Hai, Timepass Nahi!

The dance with Kashi and Mastani was reminiscent of Dola Re from Devdas including some of the steps.

The funniest moment was when Bajirao goes to meet Mastani who is in labour and he holds her hand and does breathing exercises along with her which was so 21st century and seemed so out of place in 18th century.

One of the best works of craft I have witnessed in recent times. All characters have given such a powerful and impactful performance, very well understanding the pride and dignity of their respective characters. Priyanka Chopra is the real star of the film, who has portrayed her role with sheer perfection. Stunning visuals, excellent music and wonderful direction. The film is just perfect in every sense.

Bajirao Mastani is a must watch, great set, great design of costumes, great acting. overall it is a good movie to be watched. #intense #visualTreat #touching story with awesome dialogues and songs.

- With Sanjay Leela Bhansali's direction the movie looks awestruck, depicting medieval India at it's riches specially in Maratha Emperor is truly an visual treat. The presentation on screen is always a standard benchmark of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film.
#nostalgic - You cannot get over with performances, songs, dance and dialogues. One of the movies which will be remembered in long run for it's all round performance.
#intense - There's intense love, intense friendship, intense warrior depiction in the movie. Priyanka, Ranveer and Deepika couldn't have made more justice to their role plays.

A Ranveer- Deepika starrer always promises to take your breath away. From the screenplay to the costumes, every detail was dealt with perfection. The performances are commendable.

Outstanding screenplay , blazing perfomances , strong plot & perfectly organised sets make it the so called Perfect Magnum Opus , Director Sanjay leela bhansali has not left any rock turned to make this film a Solid narrative making it worth watch at the theatres ;) It has every bit of essence that a good movie should be about emotions , Love , action , drama & dialouges all and all a feast to eyes . Do not miss this gem of bollywood .

Story & Screenplay

Screenplay is solid itt grips you all throughout the movie and ensures you get into every bit of the story without getting you off the track . Punching dialouges and smooth going narrative ties you to give a perfect cinematic feel. The characters are portrayed beautifully and the sets are magnificent & large.
The story is about a warrior peshwa Bajirao who is the royal king and is always in victory with his smart mind and perfect plan . He is weeded to kashibai played by priyanka now in verge of helping his neighboring state he meets a beautiful princess named Mastani Played by deepika . Slowly they fall in love and now bajirao accepts her as his second wife , but then given that bajirao is a maratha and mastani is a muslim it paves way to get him questioned for not following the culture , a number of times few people try to kill mastani but bajirao stands tall he protects his love , he gives her all respect though bajiraos family dosent accept her , bajirao himself takes due care & he loves her to an extent that he agress to withdraw himself as the king only for mastani . In a couple of days bajirao goes on a massive war so mastani is left behind all alone and thats when bajiraos mom plans a perfect plan to make her captive and kill her but them admist war bajirao gets to know this from some one , he rages out kills all the enemies in the battle field and then after winning the massive war he decides to fight against his own place for mastani but then he suddenly falls ill and waits for mastani to come, a few of his family members plan to release mastani and get here right infront of bajirao as his health goes critical but thingss dont work out , Bajirao goes Insane he stars sensing Horses , weapons , enemies all around him even when there is nothing he starts acting mad and finally counts his last breath on the other hand mastani who is a captive in the jail waits for bajirao but then she too counts her last breath and a dialouge pops up which they have conversed in past " Mastani Humari dhadkane eek saath dhadakti hai aur rukhti b eek saath hai" & they die finally a very beautfilu message is read out loud to the audience "Mohobbat ka koi dharam nahi hota kyuki mohobaat hi apne aap mai eek bohot bada dharam hai"

Perfomances

Bajirao played by ranveer singh is just perfect , shandaar and the best , i should say its his best perfomance till date he has carried that dynamicity and attitude of a king , coming to deepika as mastani she has been graceful and has done par justice to the role , and now priyanka chopra has been a exact match of a marathi girl and it has gone very well , the perfomances ignite the spirits and get in more interest and enthusiasm in watching the film

FINAL VERDICT

Its more than a worth watch at theatres , get going do not miss this gem of bollywood it has eveything to provide you a perfect cinematic feel .

For me the movie was all about beautiful and lavish sets and costumes. Music is also soothing and good. However, overall the story was depressing, ending on a sad note. Wonder why would you choose one for bollywood mainstream cinema. Deepika looked pretty in her costumes. Ranveer as usual was pathetic. Both Ranveer and Deepika were not convincing in their roles. The best actor in the movie was Priyanka Chopra. I wish she could have got more screen space. All in all okayish movie

Bajirao Mastani, the movie that has divided critics throughout India. Some label it as Hindu nationalistic drivel while others proclaim it as Bhansali's Magnum Opus. Today, I got a chance to judge the movie by my own eyes and here is my review.
