Reviews & Ratings for
Baby Driver (2017)

Nearly Perfect
I unabashedly adore Edgar Wright. His Cornetto trilogy starting with Shaun of the Dead are so hilarious = the second, Hot Fuzz is one of my favorite films of all time. And the brilliance that is Scott Pilgrim!

So, when I saw this trailer for Baby Driver, my anticipations was at a fever pitch. It is fantastic. Not laugh out loud guffaws like I had in Hot Fuzz, but oh, so clever. I’m no Fast and Furious type of girl, but the driving is simply amazing. I’ve read that it surpasses some of the Fast and Furious movies.

A Driver that anyone wants
Baby Driver is a film written and directed by Edgar Wright. When I saw the initial trailer of the film itself, I was sure that this film was going to be a blast. And yes, I was quite overjoyed with the film. I haven't seen much of Edgar's work (I have only seen Shaun of the Dead). But I can definitely say that this is one of the best action films I have seen in quite some time.

Plot: baby is a getaway driver for a group of robbers led by Doc. Meeting Debora, he decides to leave this job. Can he?? Story and direction: For me, script and direction go hand in hand. If either one of these are faulty the film tends to fail. But in the case of this film, the both of these were just correct. Edgar Wright deserves full credit for this. After the film finished, I was like "WOW". I just couldn't stop clapping my hands. This film shows that with the right people on board for a film, you can work wonders. I mean this theme has been worked around for quite long wherein a guy with bad people always wants to get out. But when he decides to, he just realizes that it's just not easy. But the way Edgar handles this theme is just marvelous. And the car chases.... I can basically go on about them. They were just impeccable. Many people have complained about the romance slowing the pace. But, I think that was quite necessary to delve deep into the characters of Baby and Debora. But when the pace picks for the final hour, I mean I seriously had goosebumps. Each and every minute you worry about the lead pair. And finally, I would like to comment on the thing that was the soul of the film: THE MUSIC. I am not quite a keen listener to Engish songs. But man, I liked the choice of songs that were picked up for this film. Excellent work Steven Price (who also scored Suicide songs- which too had a nice pick of songs)!!!! Also, a small mention to choreographer Ryan Heffington who syncs in the action with the music seamlessly.

Acting: Ansel Elgort was the star of the film. My god, what a diversity!!!! I loved him in the Fault of Our Stars and here is still proving that he is a great actor. Lily James was just like your next door girl. She was sweet, cute, bubbly, etc... Kevin Spacey was also good as Doc. Jamie Foxx was also great as the twisted Bats. Jon Hamm was also one of the highlights. During the last half hour or so, I quite liked his performance.

Favorite Scene: The scene where Doc says Baby to scan the United States Post Office for cameras, exits, employees, etc... We basically can see the reluctance on Baby's face regarding the work given. And the kid, just blurting out all the info to Baby was just an icing on the cake. And the scene there after, where Baby just gives the info to Doc and the kid reminds him that he forgot something. This scene also showed that Baby was fed up of the kind of work he was doing.

Verdict: I had a blast with this film. Watch this film especially for Ansel Elgort, he is a definite star in the making. if you are a music lover too, I guess this film won't disappoint. If you are an action lover too, I recommend this film.

I found the climax to be underwhelming. Loved the cinematography though.

Epitome of Coolness.
The long shot at the start of the movie to the epic ending of the movie. Everything was cool. Edgar Wright may have redefined Coolness with his movie. From Epic Soundtracks to Stylish Cinematography. Everything about this movie felt right. As an audience, I really hated that our protagonist had to go to jail and Kevin Spacey got killed. But again, Where is the originality of the movie if it goes according to what audience wants? Maybe the reason it doesn't go as we expected is the beauty of this movie.

This one MOVES FAST!
Yesterday I saw one of the most ridiculously titled movies of the year. Most people might stay away coz of the title, but going past it…

The movie in question is of course BABY DRIVER.
This movie is a crime heist drama with some elements of a musical integrated into it.

HOW THE HECK? you might ask. How do you take The Transporter and sort of combine it in essence with LA LA Land?
Well you have to see the movie to understand HOW they pulled that off.

But the point is, not only did Edgar Wright (of Shaun of the dead fame) manage to pull it off, he does it in such style and brilliance that this becomes one of the BEST movies to come out in this year.

I SO miss NON super hero, NON Huge action blockbuster, smaller crime action dramas like Die Hard or The Transporter. This movie perfectly manages to satisfy that itch.
The direction is TOP NOTCH here. One of the best directed films of this decade, the score and the editing and the direction all go hand in hand to create something unique, magnificent, with a good pace and lots of amazing action sequences.
The acting my Ansel Elgort is damn good as the sullen Baby. Who speaks less, but drives fast. The cast has some heavy hitters like, Kevin Spacey, John Hamm and Jamie Foxx and they are all REALLY good in their roles, perfectly casted and great performances.

This is one heck of a rare film which has cars, guns, heists, shootouts and songs combined.

Rating: I am hard pressed to find a reason to NOT give it a perfect 10. But The film did lack a bit in the story department, which they made it up in the acting, direction and editing. So …
9/10. An almost perfect film. Definitely a cult classic in the making.

P.s: The movie has a 97% on RT and 8.4 on IMDB. So it’s lesser known but is being appreciated by critics and audiences both.

Baby Driver
Baby driver is absolutely one of the coolest, unique and stylish films of the past decade and I love every minute of it. This film is shot to perfection and not a single frame in the entire film feels out of place, the action sequences are phenomenal and the soundtrack is incredible. Baby is a great character because he's just a guy caught up in a bad situation it easily feels like he could be a real person and I love that and despite my dislike for Ansel Elgort I cant deny that he is phenomenal in this film. The rest of the cast is great too and I especially loved the believable and intimidating performance from Jamie Foxx. The film is incredibly entertaining it doesn't slow down or lose momentum once it just consistently delivers what you want from this type of movie. The car driving sequences are some of the best ever, the attention to detail is just so incredible and its shot perfectly. the dialogue is terrific there are so many hilarious and quotable lines in the film. For me movies don't get much better than Baby driver.

Baby Driver is the epitome of stylish, fast-paced action that makes Fast and Furious look tame
Smooth is the first adjective that pops in my head when I think of Baby Driver. Edgar Wright has cemented his name as one of modern cinema's most distinct filmmakers with his critically acclaimed "Three Flavoured Cornetto Trilogy" and the cult darling Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. This time he tried his hand at directing an action movie and boy! does he do wonders! Even though his earlier films had elements of action, he had not directed a full-fledged action film.

Baby Driver is about the eponymous Baby who is a get away driver (duh!) and helps in criminals escape in heists. His life is turned upside down when he encounters the charming music loving waitress Deborah and he tries to get out of the criminal life. The film has comedy, action, drama, emotions all wrapped up in the most unique soundtrack. The movie is set in a hyper-realistic world where every movement is synced to the music and all the sound produced syncs up to the music. It is a very difficult gimmick to keep up throughout a movie but if someone could do it, it is Edgar Wright and he does an amazing job. This action movie is both stylish and smart.

Before you judge me for rating...no I haven't watched Edgar Wright movies. I loved the style, the camera work, dialogues but I guess am not a fan of the movie. Probably, I will rewatch it someday.
