Aisha (2010)

It's trying to be a Clueless/Emma remake and it mostly worked for me. I kind of have a soft spot for Abhay Deol. And Sonam is winning me over. She was annoying to me in Khoobsurat, but being the fashion plate Emma is pretty perfect for her.

The ending though where she makes the speech? Meh. I can't completely remember the ending of Clueless, but I don't think Aisha measured up. What works better for Aisha than Clueless is the arranged marriage background and more class divisions inherent in India.

I just heard an interesting Podcast with The Bollywood Project girls that talked about Aisha. Sonam and her sister produce these movies under her father's company. They borrowed all their friends' clothes for Aisha and it is really a movie about female friendships more than Aisha's romance with Abhay. So unusual for Bollywood film being female focused. It's not a GREAT movie, but admirable for that.
