I realized that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is actually the first film directed by Karan Johar that I have seen on the big screen. Sure, I've seen Johar/Dharma productions, like Kapoor and Sons, on the big screen in the two plus years that I've been watching Indian cinema, but this is the first totally Karan Johar film. I went to the first day, first show, at my local theater and they were NOT prepared for the Diwali crowds. The theater was pretty full, and there was a long line at the ticket window. Interestingly, I was not the only non-Desi there. There were two women who were fans of Aish from Bride & Prejudice, but didn't even know what the title of the film meant or who SRK is. (!!!) This will be as spoiler free a review as I can make it. We know the film is about unrequited love. If you think about it, many of Karan Johar's films are about unrequited love, be it from a lover or a parent. "Will be mushkil for many to sit through the emotional drama!!!"
KJo might had to bow down to the wishes of the MNS & even put up a message thanking soldiers (nothing more than a gimmick to be frank), but he will be laughing his way to the bank with the initial. It will have the multiplexes & overseas lapping it up, but single screens are unlikely to warm up to him. It should be a blockbuster in the long run as it's surely KJo's most intense movie to date & his lead pairs has just smashed it. In short, if you dont mind emotional drama then definitely go for it!!!

A Tribute To Bollywood.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil-A Tribute to the Bollywood Classics with a 'Love tedha hai'-wala angle....
The master story teller(Karan Johar) comes up with something different now....It's a modern day relationship unlyk the typical love triangle....Apart from the love story, there are lots of other things to look out for....This is surely one of the finest acts of Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka..Now in a movie, you have Ranbir,Anushka,Fawad,Aishwarya,SHAH RUKH KHAN,Alia,Lisa, great cinematography, chartbuster music and Karan Johar.....What else do you want???What excuse do you want to give for missing this movie??
After the under-rated 'Tamasha' hope wid ths film,he wud b recognised for his bang-on performance....Anushka is in top form,as usual.......Let's not talk about Aishwarya now..Fawad is excellent, though his screen space is very little.....Girls would crave more for Fawad...*wink*
Lisa is funny....Even Imran Abbas has a cameo...He doesn't leave a mark...
SRK comes for 5 minutes and he is excellent,as usual, whatwith delivering one of the finest dialogues of ADHM...
Alia appears just before The Breakup Song...
The best part is that Kjo makes this story real.....The relationship and friendzone appears realistic...No comments for the music album of ADHM which is already topping everyone's playlists....There are many LOL moments in the first half...Second half becomes a bit stretchy but then you get to listen 'Bulleya'..RK's acting prowess accompanied with Arijit's vocals,Pritam's music and Amitabh's lyrics(Channa Mereya) are enough to make you cry..You are aware of Kjo's style of direction when he(Kjo) manages swiftly to swap btwn comic and emotional scenes..A perfect DIWALI package..
Note:- The theme of Friendzone can't be portrayed any better than ADHM..Celebrate Friendship..
Warning:- The only shortcomng in ADHM is Aishwarya Rai..Dn't think it to b just a simple predictable tale of unrequitted love..Undoubtedly one of the best commercial movies..Live the evergreen Bollywood songs...

Revisiting themes of abiding friendship and unrequited love again nearly after twenty years, this time Karan Johar displayed it, armed with maturity that comes with time and age. Working well within the environment that best suits him, that is wealthy good-looking NRI's, which are far away from tribunals of normal folks, Johar's craft is sensitive, whose biggest strength unarguably are its two leads,Ranvir and Anushka. These two characters are displayed bound by cheesy Indian songs from 80s. Anushka's deep affection remains firmly platonic for Ranvir. Aishwarya being unvanquishable villain, has dellivered lasting impression within her limited screen time. The actress conveys volumes in her last scene with minimal lines. In the end it is Ranvir Kapoor who is earning accolades and walks away with top honours, there is not one emotion in which he skipped a beat be it funny, emotional, sad or confused. The director had shown the emptiness in Ranvir's heart despite he has all the materialistic posessions which is palpable on-screen. If a movie transcends the boundaries of cinema ,this one has done it with emotions. Although the second half drags, the key to remain invested in the movie is by engaging in its characters. Karan Johar knows how to give a soft tissue cry when the lights come back,it is the art that has remained with him even his grammer has changed.

Avoid else get mushkilzoned
Genre: Dharma Production(KJo should get this genre patented)

Actors: Ranbir (Rockstar Janardan) Kapoor, Anushka (Soon to be Kohli) Sharma, Aishwarya (Back with a Bang)Rai Bachchan.

The word “Friendzone” is joked about a lot on the internet and some movies do touch this topic in a more polite and dry humoresque tone. Well, KJo takes this friend zone to a new level aka “Marte dum tak I Friend You, I Friend You too”.

Johar returned to writing and directing after judging people in reality and talent hunt shows but its weak story is what pushes the envelope way too far than the audience can tolerate.Yes, we do judge you too for we expect something good out of good directors who come out of hibernation after long breaks and still deliver sub-par stuff.

Coming back to the movie Ayan, Aalizeh(Jackie Shroff yaad aagaya maa kasam bey) and Saba are what the poster of the movie delivered. Ranbir’s Ayan is the blend of all the roles he played in Tamasha, YJHD, Wake Up Side and Bachna Aey Haseeno.(Not pointing to the pattern but Bombay Velvet ke baad Ranbir sirki puppy eyes ko exploit karna banta hai). Anushka, the queen of friend zone and the old red wine Aishwarya’s Saba being the weakest link in the story that completes the full circle of cliche ridden journey called Ae Dil hai Mushkil.

Not jumping into the story to dissect for it is very cruel to dissect a romantic movie but what works and what doesn’t can be easily pointed out.

The Yay’s:

1)The music(Pritam kahin se bhi uthao, par keep making this short term addictive music,. Its trippy and touches all the right chords of our heart)

2)SRK cameo(I would just release his sequence as a short movie on youtube and it would rake in all the money from advertisement! Such power, much wow that sequence was)

3)Thinking that the story might take a turn and Aishwarya might be Anushka’s mother..or maybe Ranbir’s. #FanFiction

The Nay’s:

1)Weaker supporting cast/cameos in the form of Fawad,Lisa Haydon and Alia.

2)Stretching the “Toote dilse hi sangeet nikalta hai theory”(Samosa me story wala aalu daal hi nahi gaya)

3)Ranbir narrating his story like Ted Mosby delivering the 9 year long monologue to his kids about how he met their mother (Okay come to think of it, KJo might have been watching the HIMYM finale while getting high on 500 days of Summer and thinking lets release this on Diwali and make people cringe at friendships.)

Remix of Karan Johar's past work
I finally managed to watch a movie after a long time, and I repent every sec of watching this one. It even lacks the strong emotional touch for which Karan Johar is known for. We have already seen a lot of it in his past films.
The only silver lining was Ranbir's acting and the soundtrack.

Wanna be classic, just sinks low!
This is the story of a youth caught between friendship and love and who cannot abandon either.

This movie could have been a classic. A masterpiece. It starts out that way. Strong, witty, charming. But some of the way through this movie falters. Then it keeps on dragging till the movie finally and blissfully ends.

Karan Johar hasn’t given us a good film as a director in nearly a decade and this movie doesn’t break that record. The script borrows elements from every recent romantic film, from Rockstar, to Yeh Jawani hai deewani to Johar’s own (produced) Kal ho na hoo. The characters mimic lines from kuch kuch hota hai… its slightly tacky for a director to refer to his own films. It shows how old and out of touch everyone has gotten.

Acting wise, Anushka shines though, she is pretty consistent and amazing throughout. Ranbir does his usual combining parts of his rockstar performance with the happy go lucky guy from tamaasha and yeh jawaani.
There are barely any side characters and the story stays focused on these two characters, until Ash enters the scene. She is as usual wooden and un-charming. She really tires very hard to do a good job, but her acting talent is very limited at best. But she isn’t a disaster to watch, its not cringe worthy, gets the job done of a VERY hot female, sexy character. Which is her role. Fawad khan, whose presence created such a ruckus, is barely in for 5 mins (as expected, he is listed as a cameo) and his acting is ok, nothing good or bad, just he is there for a story purpose. It could have been any other person or actor.

Moving on the music. It’s the only saving grace of the film, but the songs are not used to their full potential. But the tracks are good.

Final thoughts: Overall this film is rather uneven, it starts out strong, it gets stuck post second half and falters completely in the end.

Rating: PRE ending (last 20mins or so), I would rate this a 7. But the ending is really bad. Full movie rating is 5/10. Barely a onetime watch. Just barely…
