Sindhuja reviewed 2 States
Super awesomatic movie. The real story of chetan bagat and the 2 states book is well portrayed in this movie. On screen chemistry between arjun kapoor and alia bhatt is mind blowing. The charmingness showed by alia is too nice.Though she is not aged enough to play this role,She did her best in this movie. Both south Indian and north Indian culture is also well showed in this romantic drama.

Novel Copied, Nothing New
Directed by Abhishek Varman 2 states was a average movie for me. I've read 2 states novel by Chetan Bhagat, from which the movie was adapted. And if i compare it with novel it was a less entertaining version of it.
If you haven't read 2 states then you'll may find it a good movie.
Story undoubtedly is the best part. However, some part of the novel has been deducted. The movie must have been a cake make for the director as the scenes are a ditto copy of the novel. Screenplay was average, script unimpressive, dialogues copied, i found nothing new i can praise of.
The only person happy with the movie must be Chetan Bhagat.
Best part were the songs. Arijit singh and Benny Dayal's hit tracks did a impressive promotion for the movie. Uffo and Locha-e-Ulfat were hit even before the release.
When it comes to acting it was average. Rohit Roy as Krish's father was the only actor i could see. Arjun Kapoor, keeping in mind that he's a beginner did a very good jod. Amrita Singh also did a pretty nice job as a typical punjabi mother. Alia Bhatt was a hell. South Indian parents did great, although.
In India, love stories are really praised. And movies like DDLJ had already set a standard. Therefore, creating anything of that level is a really difficult task.
All in all 2 states is decent movie. Must be watched at least once. Not a multiple watch.
I'll give it a 3.

adrasis are dark, Punjabis are cash-obsessed, and never the twain shall meet. Those familiar prejudices make for a legitimate movie pitch, but '2 States', directed by first-timer Abhishek Varman, is a frustrating case of a promising premise that doesn't fully fructify into a compelling film.

Alia and Arjun make this a special!
The movie witnesses an inter culture bonding between the two families more than an inter caste marriage! Yes, it proves the old Indian saying about the marriage being the unite of two families more than two people. Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya (Alia Bhatt) study at prestigious IIM college in Ahmedabad completing their post graduation.
What happens next is exciting where these both from being good friends to falling in love, enjoy their lives to the fullest. Both the actors seem to be vvery much comfortable together and thus their pair flourishes throughout the movie. The director Abhishek Varman seems to be walking on KJo's footsteps as the he displays some extra glamour hence taking away from the actual life at IIM-A campus. We do see a girl entering a boy's hostel and hooking up with him inside the room.
The Romantic sequels have been shot perfectly but the story moves at a sluggish pace. One does get a feeling of fast forwarding it to the climax as it is the only thing that needs a bit of guessing. Other actors Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh play a short but a vital role in the movie making sure the inter culture differences are dished out generously to the people.
The script work is one of tidiest as it is taken from the popular novel "TWO STATES" written by Chetan Bhagat, the movie has something which makes it a one-time watch as Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt just manage to catch enough eyeballs!

Arjun's fangirls,go for it!
The stereotyped concept of inter-state marriage in India and the hotchpotch that ensues. The conflicting ideals of a Tamil Brahmin family and a Punjabi family- and two passionate lovers drawn in the brawl. The movie speaks about the fact how marriage is more important as a tie-up between families and culture more than the bonding between two persons! A lot of mud-slinging between parents and a lot of hard work on the part of the lovers to bring them round!
Alia and Arjun are commendable in their roles-so are the supporting cast! Music is mesmerizing in some parts-making the flow of the movie smooth and enchanting! Newcomer director does a good job in adapting the bestseller novel into an entertaining piece
