A good attempt.

Recreating history on screen is difficult but Gowariker has mastered the skill of doing it. That too, doing it in the Bollywood way, loaded with music, celebration, grandeur and romantic elements in the backdrop of events historical importance. Jodhaa Akbar is mainly recounting the life and bravado of Akbar, the great Mughal Emperor who ruled India. The plot deftly intertwines the story of his achievements and impartial judgements with the little known story of his first marriage with the Rajput Queen,Jodhaa Bai. The marriage was one of compromise, and Jodha Bai preferred jauhar over marriage to a Muslim King. Yet,the marriage happened and love brewed between the patient, tolerant Emperor and the brave Queen. The story is a story of love, politics and war set in the Mughal era which distinctly portrays the age,the behavior, the costumes, religious practices in the best way possible. The set and locations chosen are grand and the costume has been created after lot of research. The screenplay depict certain historical flaws. The grave situations and majestic events have been diluted with a lot of melodrama at certain places. Yet,overall the film is a very good cinematic work-with powerful performances and a refined storytelling.
