A pleasant diverting and sometimes charming movie that doesn't try to do much. It has likeable performances by most, character and plot developments you can see coming a mile away and a nice breezy mood.
Doesn't work as well as an Amazing Couple as a stand alone story, but it does a good job showing me another side of this world I've already been introduced to. While An Amazing Couple is the comedy of the trilogy, this is the crime drama. As a whole I admire this project and I wonder why no one else other than Kieslowski ever tries to make these kinds of trilogies. The characters overlap, but each movie has a completely different tone and genre.
Although it features a great Dali designed dream sequence I would place this on the lower end of the Hitchcock films I've seen. I can enjoy some good Freudian psychobabble, but when you base your whole plot on it it will get tiresome.
A good central performance surrounded by inept filmmaking. I would've much rather preferred a by the numbers biopic than all the flashbacks, side-plots involving a ghost husband and endless montages of outstretched stock footage.
