A romantic cliche spread across space.
[contains spoilers]

The Space Between us is the story of a young teenage boy who happens to reside in a colony of humans on Mars and his search for his father, presumably on earth. The whole picturization was breathtaking, but dewy-eyed teenagers failed to provide some much-needed gravity to what could otherwise have been a fabulous movie.

The movie is filled with cliches, and I will take turns with each of them:

#1. Women are from Venus and (you saw this coming), Men are from (yup) MARS!

#2. What is the first snack space boy eats after landing on earth? That's right 'MARS'!

#3. If you love someone, you cross oceans, but because you live on another planet, you cross space. Well, your health issues can temporarily be forgotten.

#4. What do you do when you find a space boy? You run off with him.

#5. Classified information can be found everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

#6. The pain of separation, followed by sacrifice cause there's nothing left on earth anyway.

It does seem at certain points that a world presumed to be 16 years in future which has high-tech gadgets, but the vehicles and classrooms are still similar to present day. The love between the two youngsters was supposed to make me teary eyed, but alas it failed.

The Space Between us is sweet to some extent but does not hold many surprises in it, not to mention music comes up very suddenly throughout this movie. Peter Chelsom had it all set I'm sure, but maybe he got a little too carried away with the whole Mars Expedition.

Overall the movie is watchable but doesn't make any actual sense apart from its cliched romance.
