Maska (2020)

A light-hearted watch.
Maska is a story set in Mumbai revolving around an authentic Irani Cafe. The film unfolds a story of a young Parsi boy, Rumi who is played by Prit Kamani and his conflict between following his dream to be an actor or living up to his Mother's vision of him running their Cafe "Rustom" after her husband's death.Rumi's mother is played by Manisha Koirala who gives the movie so much personality.

Moving along the storyline, Rumi gets together with a girl Malika who also turns out to be an aspiring actor. But his mother is beyond repulsive over the fact that she's not a Parsi and is also a divorcee.
After Rumi's several attemps of auditioning for various roles and nearly even selling his ancestorial cafe,he learns that the Cafe isn't merely a place where Bun Maska's are made and that it treasures stories and memories, not only for him but also for the people who daily partake in the Cafe. Most of the credits for his above realisation goes to a young bright minded Parsi girl, Persis who he eventually falls in love with.

Altogether the movies execution was average. It was heart warming to watch but didn't really portray Rumi or Persis full acting potential. The movie felt like there was something meaningful or some story line lacking. There wasn't much romance and zero comedy to be honest. Other than the fact that it showed the true meaning of the difference between a head full of dilution and someone's true "ikigai." It seemed like the movie had a potential that wasn't planted correctly.

But in the end if you ever want to watch something that's sweet and isn't too serious. This one is for you.
