It is not GREAT, but it is not as terrible as some people are saying.

I am SO curious how much of the ending Aamir had a hand in.

It's basically 500 Days of Summer BUT with TRAGIC reasons for the breakup -- and then Kangana made me cry.

There was so much inspiration from 500 Days of Summer for this movie, and Kangana makes a pretty good quirky manic pixie dream girl Zoey Deschanel free spirit type. There is also the younger sister of Imran (not a cursing 12 year old though) who gives it to him straight, just as in 500 Days. It's not a complete remake scene for scene, though, and the ending is completely different.

Just like 500 Days, we see him super depressed about the breakup at the beginning, and flashing back repeatedly to scenes from their relationship, how they met, etc. The first part of the film is adorable. I think they had good onscreen chemistry together. There is one Devdas homage bit that was very funny.

The trouble comes in the second half. Imran's Maddy is shown to be an immature asshole and you come to hope he never does find Payal's number because he doesn't deserve her. The trailer cut things in a very funny way, and those scenes extended don't necessarily have the same comedy punch. There was almost no one in a cavernous theater, so maybe I would have laughed more with a crowd.

A friend with me pointed out afterwards that this is the same director as D-Day which we both loved. Not sure he has the deft touch for all romantic comedy. Imran gives it his all -- really the movie is SO much his point of view, and my friend discussed how it shows the Indian hero always has to be right about everything in the end.

The movie logic of the script didn't work for me in the middle of the film as we see the breakup and WHY they broke up. But then Kangana made me cry, because she can just wring that emotion out of you. She's just good and rises above whatever material she is in.

Lip to Lip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eu9o0d3V6Q is my favorite song and I thought the stop motion sequence for it was refreshing and fun. The rest of the soundtrack is just okay.

So, as Kangana asks Imran -- Are you willing to have a time-pass relationship with this film? Because that's what you're going to get. I'd give it three stars out of five for some nice moments, and because I have a soft spot for Kangana and Imran. I liked it more than that movie he did with Deepika (Break Ke Bad) where he stalked her to Australia, but it's not as good as Mere Brother Ki Dulhan was in plot -- but obviously Kangana acts circles around Katrina.

As they say, it is not a modern day romance and seems to have pounced back from early 90's.This movie delivers us with a story which makes us feel bored with the usual storyline of a rom-com movie.

? This movie is a desperate attempt of copying our much beloved movies like "If Only" , "The Walk to Remember" and many else. It proves again that our director got lost while getting "out of the box".

For me this movie is another one black mark on Imran Khan's acting career and a red marked score on Kangana's Report Card. Cliched. Was Nicholas Sparks the writer or something?
