Gehraiyaan (2017)

Gehraiyaan though a horror story is fundamentally a love story that unfolds between 26-year-old researcher Reyna Malik, and her surgeon partner Shekhar in a Hospital in Mumbai. Reyna is now back in Mumbai after having taken a short break from work. Our heroine feels challenged to get back to the work she loves the most. Surgery. Owing to a trauma that affected her in the recent past, the hospital authorities are skeptical on allowing her to practice so early on. Gehraiyaan, directed by Sidhant Sachdev is a perfect blend of mystery, thrill, spook and fear overloaded. Sanjeeda’s character Reyna exudes fear and terror while her surgeon boyfriend is at her side to help her face the forces of the dark. The twist in the tale is the emergence of her mysterious neighbour Sahil played by Vatsal who comes to her rescue.
The show also suffers from the fact that the real horror begins only after the 4/5th episode, till then the plot lingers on the build-up story which reaches an engaging crescendo in the 6th episode.
The climax is tight and keeps one engrossed. Though, it remains a tad baffling why the good spirit did not use her powers to save lives at the church. Last but not the least, we must point out that the background score did give us the occasional goosebumps.

Sanjeeda’s character Reyna exudes fear and terror while her surgeon boyfriend is at her side to help her face the forces of the dark. The twist in the tale is the emergence of her mysterious neighbor Sahil played by Vatsal who comes to her rescue. Even though the series goes with same bollywood horror genre of adding the element of love in it, but despite this it weaves that cliche quite well into the series. The acting skills of veteran Sanjeeda Sheik can be seen very well in the series with good developments in the characters of others. But the main USP of the show is it's horror, which actually is spine chilling and is definitely for people with feint heart.
Verdict- A must watch for the daredevils who loves the horror genre.
