Must-Watch
Synopsis: The story follows the events that take place when 22-year old Shutu(Vikrant Massey) goes to his aunt's place in McKluskiegunj for a vacation.
A Death in the Gunj is a cleverly written drama with utmost attention paid to details. It has a coherent screeenplay which keeps the audience engaged with its twists and turns. It Konkana Sen Sharma manages to keep us invested with the characters(You feel the urge to protect Shutu and place a soothing hand over his head). Vikrant Massey is absolutely brilliant as Shutu and the rest of the cast comprising of Ranvir Shorey, Gulshan Devaiah and Kalki Koechlin are equally good as well. The film is atmospheric, you could literally imagine yourself in the setting . At 107 minutes, the film never drags and keeps you on your toes.Overall, A death in the Gunj is a must-watch for its unpredictably and stellar performances.
Note: It is currently available on Amazon Prime.

Sharma's directorial debut is intense, and a bit tiring
There are only a few films that speak it out of the crowd. They do not have any sort of masala, extended romance, item numbers and all those masala elements. One such example is A Death in the Gunj. The film has been shot in English, Hindi and Bengali simultaneously.

I'll talk about this film very briefly. The plot was okay, and inspired out of true events. As the film's premise reads " a heavy price to pay for gentleness", so is the plot. But since it is a non-spoiler review, I better stay quiet.

Acting and performances of all cast was good. Special mention of Vikrant Massey. It's good to see that unpopular movies are making good use of talent. Hope this goes with the budget inflated ones too.

Music was okay. Most of it was inspired and actually was folk music. The background score was ,nevertheless , just fine. Not much attracting, not much distracting.

On the ending nite, you can expect to watch this film atleast once. It doesn't have anything much to admire about, except for the performances and the direction. You can give it a watch, for sure.
