Bekaaboo (2019)

Bekaboo, an ALT Balaji Original, is the story of an erotica novelist, Kiyaan Roy and his paramour turned blackmailer, Kashti. A theme of obsession and love and hate forms the undercurrent of the narrative. With performances by Priya Banerjee, Rajeev Sidhhartha and Madhussneha Upadhyay, it's a poorly made show that ends up disappointing its viewers. The rawness of the story is something you can't get over. In all, a one-time watch if you're hell bent on viewing it.

Bekaaboo is an AltBAlaji original erotic series which clearly justifies its title. I really admired how the show touches so many controversial topics like stalker alerts, #MenToo, partial nudity and more in a natural way. My favorite thing about the show was its unpredictability. By the end of the penultimate episode I was actually on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. The show is definitely not a family one, unless you are really cool with watching sexual scenes with you family. The show is much more than the erotica and a perfect example of the proverb, ‘Karma is like a mirror. You’ll get what you deserve.’ The cast nailed their role and made the best of their on screen time.

The show follows the story of a happy couple whose lives are interrupted by a crazy stalker. Author Liyaan Roy writes a book about his sexual fantasies with a crazy fan which comes true. The show is an underwhelming adaptation of the book, reduced to sex just to sell it and have a wide reach. Read the book instead.
