Jack O’Connell plays the part of a hyper-aggressive and superbly ferocious inmate, Eric Love, newly transferred from juvie to an adult prison. Physically, he seems well-prepared to serve his time, mentally, he doesn't understand or respect the dynamics of an adult prison. His arrival upsets the delicate balance between inmates and guards as reflected, on a smaller scale, by the disruption of an anger management group. The movie doesn't carry a message of prison cruelty or racial segregation, rather, the expected ritual violence hides an undercurrent of desperation in the protagonist. O'Connell is simply brilliant. He effortlessly switches from enraged to vulnerable in seconds. Despite his overt aggression and his tricks with shivs and baby oil, O'Connell reminds us that Eric Love, for all his toughness, is not yet a "hardened convict". He is very young and still impressionable. O'Connell is supported by fantastic performances from Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend.

The director Otto Bell said, "[The Altai mountains are] the most remote part of the least-populated country in the world". In this corner of the world, Nurgaiv is training his 13 year old daughter, Aisholpan, to be the first eagle huntress in the history of the nomadic Mongol clans. He is opposed by conservative elders. Others stare doubtfully or laugh outright at him. He tells Aisholpan she is better than most men. She can do anything a boy can. The documentary proves his words. Aisholpan carries a 10 kg female eaglet on her arm while riding a sturdy mountain pony straight-backed across uneven terrain. Neither her balance or her strength falter. She is sculpted by the mountains and colored by winds that blows across the steppes. She is the living, breathing representation of all that Disney ever dreamed of when they created Moana-Mulan-Pocahontas.

3 stories and 4 women. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, director of 'Once upon a time in Anatolia' had once said in an interview, "I think the human face is the most beautiful landscape. The face tells you everything. It's the only way to get to the truth because, most of the time, the words we say are not true. We have a tendency to deceive others to protect ourselves". This movie brings out moments in the protagonists' lives that are relatable because they are so commonplace. They are moments of wordless silence - a passing thought, a reflection or a realisation that is only expressed on the landscape of their faces.

War is ugly. Its aftermath is uglier. Very few mainstream movies address the genocides committed when wars end. Very few movies in mainstream cinema ever addressed the fate of the German POWs who were mostly 15 year old boys and old men. 'Under the Sand' or 'Land of Mine' tells the story of 14 German POWs ordered to clean up live mines buried along Denmark's coastline with little training and no safety gear. This is a dark movie but not entirely without hope or forgiveness.

From the opening credits to the highway of horror to the last scene where Susan (Amy Adams) is sitting in a restaurant, this movie is shockingly grotesque, horrifying, scary-as-hell (especially if you are a woman, which I am), and surprising in its motives. Superb performances, a star cast and good direction make this movie worth your while if you can get past the opening credits.

This move chronicles the hunt for the notorious Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann who escaped justice at the end of the second World War. Burghart Klaußner is electric in his role as the Attorney General, Fritz Bauer, a relentless lawyer who is surrounded by former Nazis. His desire to have Eichmann extradited to the GDR is so great, he would rather commit treason than allow him slip away a second time. A riveting watch. #legal #thriller #worldcinema #dark

I am a fan of Matthias Schoenaerts since his splendid performances in 'Bullhead' and later in 'Rust and Bone'. He does not disappoint in 'Disorder'. Its quiet tenseness takes us through the mind of a man suffering from severe post-war PTSD. His ears ring with tinnitus, his edginess gives the expectation of leashed violence so that even the ordinary sight of a trash bag picked up a breeze can seem surreal. An underrated movie.

A rebellious adopted kid (Julian Dennison) refuses to give in to social services and their plan to separate him from his foster dad (Sam Neill). Kid and old man take off with their two dogs into New Zealand's 'bush' with hilarious consequences.

Literally out-of-this-world performances by Michael Shannon and Joel Edgerton. Wonderful cinematography and brilliant direction by Jeff Nichols. This movie is unexpectedly good. Do not watch the trailer if you like to be surprised
