India's best sitcom. Hands down.
How often do we find snob people around us who look down upon the others just because they do not wear good clothes,or are not totally Westernized in their outlook and practices? Pretty regularly! The well-to-do Upper middle-class in India, falling in the twilight-zone between the wealthy and the Bourgeoisie are always aspiring to shed the last traces of their associations with the lower rung of society. They try to add fluidity to their class mobility-that is to say, their journey to the upper rungs of society!
Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai, very meticulously traces these aspects of a typical upper-middle class Indian family and presents them in the packaging of a sitcom, seasoned with sarcastic humor-lots and lots of it! The well-educated,highly sophisticated Maya Sarabhai-at loggerheads with her simple,middle-class daughter-in-law Monisha; the capricious head of the family, Indravadan at loggerheads with his son Roshesh,a failed poet and Momma's boy;and the normal son-the unbiased voice of the audience-Sahil Sarabhai sandwiched between this eclectic mix of his family! I can assure you this show will produce roaring laughter all the while, but will never fail to ring its message loud and clear-the farcical situation in the upper-middle class Indian society.

Words,which will change your life
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck co-created this wonderful story for which they have been awarded an Academy award and rightly so! And for those fans of Robin Williams who are satisfied with 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Good Morning,Vietnam', you CANNOT afford to miss this film. Williams earned his much deserved Academy award(in a supporting role) for this film. Good Will Hunting is a film that has inspired and touched the most sensitive corners of the introverts. Introverts, who nurture an agony which torment them, and make them flee from any good development in their world- they are unable to unshackle themselves from a bitter past and kill themselves little by little with their own anxiety.
Within the campus of MIT lives an anonymous genius who solves the toughest math problems within an hour! Professor Lambeau(Stellan), a Fields medal winner is astounded to find that the genius is a native sweeper,a young boy named Will Hunting(Damon)- a self-taught prodigy, with eidetic memory. Lambeau takes Will under his wings and embarks on a mission to make Will follow his legacy, bear his stamp! Will Hunting,on the other hand , is shown to be a conscious of his abilities and quite proud of his originality! He hates to be tamed. With a sordid past lurking beneath,he fails to grasp the good in his life, and shoves away the beautiful Skylar who is helplessly in love with him. His recklessness and rash, unkempt behavior provokes Lambeau to assign a shrink to bring Will back to moderate ways of life. It is after several sabotaged appointments, that Will meets Sean Maguire(Williams) who completely changes Will's perspective and his understanding of life.
The inspiring words that Maguire has been given to orate are indeed inspiring and bear so much meaning within their simplicity. Worth a watch! For it will change how we value our life! It will change our idea of loss!

breezy,beautiful.
The film beautifully travels through a set of binaries. The binary of a relationship of love and of compromise, the binary of the personal and impersonal affairs in business deals, the binary of reading as a quest for knowledge and reading as a fanciful habit! These are implicitly presented, but for a sensitive viewer, they are major concerns which have been dealt with care.
Nowadays chatting with a stranger anonymously, and forming a correspondence through letters/Mail is an ancient thing. The film is set in the time when Mail and online chatrooms were a new concept, and therefore exciting. Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) runs her mother's bookstore which has the flavour of a quaint, dimly lit store, where few regular customers walk in and reminisce old days! Joe Fox(Tom Hanks) is the son of a millionaire who opens a coming-of-age bookstore where the cafeteria attracts people more than the books. Both Kathleen and Joe are in the middle of unhappy relationships and they resort to online chatting to find solace. But they do so anonymously, and they develop a beautiful friendship! The main surprise comes when Hank's company set their store right across the street where the little bookstore is situated and Kathleen''s business suffers a terrible setback! After that, their hidden virtual identities come to the fore, and their friendship has to suffer a blow!
The plot doesn't offer anything new,and neither is the love-story a dollop of saccharine! The journey is shown beautifully but is partly predictable-but the writers add some sophistication by intertwining literary references. What wins you over is the leading duo!

Watch it. Watch the fiery pair.
Smart and suave Edward Lewis bumps into Vivian,a prostitute ,while seeking the direction to Beverly Hills. Edward offers Viv a ride, and instantly sparks fly! Edward allows Viv to act as his escort for a week, and stay along with him in his suite. Viv is shown to have a conversion from the down-on-her-luck, carefree woman to a sensitive, elegant woman who dresses well, practices upper class etiquette and transforms herself to a poised woman, fit to be Edward's companion. Over the span of seven days, they develop a beautiful bond-where the lonely Edward finds a soul to confide in. He is enamored by Viv's carefree nature. He is able to shed his own ruthless nature and turn into a sensitive person. The movie goes on to show how life surprises Viv by making it similar to the fairytale she fantasized about.
Julia Roberts was young and fresh and totally convincing in her role-which earned her a Golden Globe Award, and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Richard Gere was breathtaking as the rich entrepreneur. The ensemble caste was also brilliant in their performance. Music has played an important role in holding the mood of the film. The locations around Hollywood has been beautifully filmed. Sid to be one of the most notable films in the genre of recent Romantic Comedy, Pretty Woman is worth a watch for its simple Cinderella story featuring two superb actors and some uplifting music.

Different. Worth a watch.
Ad film-maker Vinil Mathew has churned out a beautiful rom-com with a simple story and lots of hullabaloo of an inter-caste marriage. A love-story of oddballs! Two families,at loggerheads with their ethics and ideals, are getting ready for a big wedding ceremony where the groom seems really lost in the commotion, unable to heave a sigh of relief amid everything-the arrangements, the demands of the fiancee, the eccentric family members and the super-eccentric sister-in-law, Mita! Whereas, Mita is a promising young talent, who is the Sheldon Cooper whom others find impossible to understand! The problem lies with Mita's behavior- she is eccentric, rash and unapologetic. But Nikhil, the groom finds solace in this freewheeling soul. They fall in love! They embark on a journey which is equally rash and eccentric as they are. This forms the heart of the movie.
The concept is unique, very suitably molded into the format of a rom-com. What make sthe film stand out is music and performance. Parineeti and Sidhharth deliver brilliant, unforgettable performances. And The beautiful 'Zehnaseeb' will keep ringing in your ears, long after you have finished watching the movie. What is special about the movie is the final feeling of exultation, where we'll have tears in our eyes and smile on our lips.

watch it with your mom. :)
Th introductory scene shows Shashi(Sridevi) engaged in household chores just like any busy mother who has her to send her children off to school and pack lunch for her husband. But Shashi has another identity. She makes scrumptious Laddoos and sells them. The West tags her an entrepreneur, but her husband and daughter finds her business embarrassing. While Shashi is kearned enough to teach proper English words to a servant. WHat embarrasses her family is her inability to speak it fluently and confidently. Shashi, herself is a woman who knows who can make it but lacks the spur to take an attempt.
The humiliation at home, airport and at the Cafeteria in Manhattan finally provides the fuel which makes her promptly join spoken English classes. The metamorphosis of Shashi from the shy housewife in a cocoon to the brilliant butterfly who delivers an inspiring speech at the wedding with elan. The journey of Shashi and the people involved adds a variety of colors to the narrative. The global village within the classroom, the ability to interact without the mechanism of a common language and the casual reference to homosexuality breaks many stereotypes- unforeseen in Indian cinema. But the message which rings loud and clear is the one regarding the status of housewives in Indian society. They are taken for granted and their herculean tasks of raising children, and managing the household single-handedly are overlooked just because they are not tech-savvy or fluent in colloquial English. That the flaw is generated because of refusing them the opportunity to thrive, is never paid heed to by the patriarchal sections. This concept is questioned and clearly shown what a woman can achieve when the doors are opened to her.
Sridevi as Shashi is brilliant. This is probably the best second-innings attempted by any Indian actress. The supporting cast is also adept in their roles.
The camera work is mainly perfectly exploited in capturing the cityscape of Manhattan. Music by Amit Trivedi captures the ethos of the film and retains the Indian flavor while evenly utilizing western instruments and English lyrics.

Tom Schulman, reminiscing his days at the Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville), scripted this poignant story of a bunch of passionate youngsters in the fictional boarding school of Welton Academy. In his story, however, the boys are entrapped in the dictum of discipline which stifles their fantasies and kills their aspirations. While these children are disillusioned in the face of a conflict between surmounting pressure and adolescent yearnings, they are swept off their feet the flamboyance of their new teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams). Despite being an alumnus of Welton, Keating himself dismisses the stringent rules of the school and ensures that his boys develop wings to take flights of fantasy and touch their towering passions.
The concept of students with their rebellious dismissal of restrictions is quite a hackneyed one. This film does not explore this in a very innovative way either. Yet, the powerful performance from the cast and the emotional content makes all the difference.

Downton Abbey is a costume drama, set in the fictional estate of Downton (Yorkshire). The plot is based on the life of the members of the aristocratic Crawley family, who are forced to brave the unforeseen and endure the unbearable. The period on which the series is based, is the Edwardian era where the society stood on the brink of plunging into a brave new world where the old ways of life will be shattered, beliefs will be remodeled, and notions of society and morality will be altered. The series meticulously tracks the conflict of traditional and the practical through the characters and their response to the flux. The picturesque locations of Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Yorkshire, and Leeds are extensively utilized to present the impeccable sense of England of the early 20th century. Julian Fellowes creates a gripping and thoroughly entertaining story which he brilliantly unfolds in four seasons, with the audience eagerly awaiting the fifth to taste England
