Thrilling,but a tad long!
Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can is a film based on the real-life incident of teenage con,Frank Abagnale. Leonardo Di Caprio, ina a totally convincing manner, pulls off the role of Frank, the fraudster. As a teenager,Frank has seen his parents get divorced and his mother continue an affair behind his father's back. Frank had also seen his father being crushed under the burden of expenses and tax returns. Frank thus nurtured the neurotic obsession for gaining money by deceitful means and turned into a fraudster after fleeing from home post his parents divorce. He posed as a Pilot, a doctor and lawyer and forged cheks to make illegal cash. Carl Hanratty(Tom Hanks) is the cat in this cat and mouse chasing game, who is an FBI bank fraud agent. Despite lacking the support of the higher authority,Carl continues his job until he tracks Frank down. But in this game of chase, the cat brings a twist in the tale.
Di Caprio and Tom Hanks are brilliant in their respective roles and the movie bears the stamp of being a Spielberg movie in shots, dialogue and climax sequences. Just that the movie is a bit too long which makes the pace stagger.

Cult film.
Farhan Akhtar has become widely known name in Bollywood because of the coming of age themes of his films. The story of Lakshya might be a stereotypical story from failure to success for some, but the unversal nature of the story ,the quotient of relatablility has made the film a cult one. A young boy,Karan Shergill(Hritik) unsure about his life applies for Military Training in IMA,just because his friend applies for it. While his backs out even after being selected, Karan, unaware about life in the academy continues with the process and finds it extremely challenging. Life has never been easy for Karan with a demanding father, a successful brother and an ambitious girlfriend,Romi(Preity). His world comes crashing down when he flees from IMA. How he takes a decision to return to IMA and proves his capability to his family and Romi, is what the story is about.
The period of struggle in youth, the choice of carreer, the daunting spirit of sticking to a decision, the task of proving oneself to the world-all the tough circumstances that the twenties put us through,'Lakshya' presents those through the story of Karan. The heart-rending performance of Hrithik is what makes the movie shine. The strong supporting cast with a bevy of famous faces from bollywood is also a laudable aspect of the film.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music, ranging from slow romantic hums to loud inspiring beats does a lot to build up the mood of the film.

A Classic, retold!
Shakespeare's renowned tragedy 'Macbeth' is retold in Indian mafia standards! The context is no longer Scotland, but Mumbai. The betrayed king is not Duncan, but Jehangir Khan, a powerful mafia and Macbeth is his unfailing man-Friday ,Maqbool. The provocative Lady Macbeth is Jehangir's second wife,Nimmi and the major instruments of doom-the role of the witches is taken up in disguise by a duo of manipulative police constables. The film includes a brilliant cast comprising Irrfan Khan,Tabu,Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah,Om Puri. Vishal Bhardwaj is splendid in his rendition of the story of betrayal, murder and unethical usurpation. Jehangir, his father-figure is murdered by Maqbool to fulfil his ambition of being the helmsman of the illegal business and gain the authority over Nimmi. The instigating evil force -the constables constantly play with the imagination and ambition of Maqbool and egg him on till he engages in a bloodbath. In the end, however they help Maqbool to escape but too late. The grim image of underworld, the confusions, deception, merciless killing every action has been intertwined adeptly within the thrilling storyline. The medieval world of Macbeth is consciously, impeccably translated into the Mumbai underworld. Every actor, the supporting cast do justice to their roles.

A good attempt
Baz Luhrmann's take on one of the most iconic American novels is praiseworthy. the screenplay and set-design is commendable. The age of roaring twenties has been effectively projected in expressions, costumes and practices. Leonardo Di Caprio is a the perfect choice for the role of Jay Gatsby, and Tobey Macguire and Carey Mulligan so justice to their roles. Over-all a good cinematic work.

Unique. Touching.
A city. Two lonely people. Food. and letters. These loose strings are beautifully tied together in a gem of a story. A lonely housewife who has lots to tell but none to share with-she works endlessly to please an indifferent husband-she tries to please him with home-cooked food. But the dabba reached to one lonely old man who is amused by the food he gets everyday. To apologise for her mistake the housewife writes a letter and places it within the dabba-the man reads it and responds. They develop a bond-uncanny yet amusing.
What the story appears to be the story, is just the surface. What lies beneath is a haunting tale of human loneliness and the frustrating experience of mundane lives.Nimrat Kaur is splendid as the housewife in her antics, her simplicity and her actions. Irrfan Khan needs no new applause but this portrayal is haunting and touching at the same time. An unexpected plot progression with a dizzying ending,'The Lunchbox' is one of a kind

Hot Favourite on TV.
The super-sleuth in a new avatar. Aided with the latest technology and the unfaltering support from his partner,Dr. Watson Sherlock is mind boggling in all his adventures. What is unique is Sherlock is given special capabilities of memory and intellect yet he is a sociopath who is extremely cold and unapologetic in his demeanor. The only people he cares for are Watson,Molly and Mrs. Hudson add to the comic The characters of Molly lly and Mrs. Hudson add to the comic and the cuter aspects while the ambiguous Mycroft and the villainous Moriarty are splendid in their actions. With a brilliant ensemble cast and the talented lead pair of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the show has been making headlines since its second season.

Happily ever after. Not the fairytale way
Picking the story from where they had left,Jesse and Celine are shown to be married and parenting twins. But the couple exhibit the wear and tear of time. They express the maturity of a a consummated love and the familiarity of coexistence. The passions and impulsive energy has taken a setback and they worry and bicker over their kids, now. While holidaying in Greece they think about the recent years and time spent as a married couple.
All simply though verbal exchange, like its predecessors this version is also remarkable in its realistic portrayal of life and casual conversation of a couple. Love has not eluded them, but the 'happily ever after' has been mocked at by time

A perfect sequel
Time leaps from June 16,1994 to summer of 2003. In the last film we found two young and effervescent persons languid in their pace and brimming with passion who were regardless of time. Before Sunset makes us acquaint ourselves with an older and exasperated version of the duo who meet suddenly and recapitulate their past decision and evaluate their present. The circumstances they were to endure, has left their mark on their faces and their thought-process. The flowing water of Seine and the blush of the twilight hour show how Time has overpowered them and frustrated their pursuits. From Vienna, the backdrop is shifted to Paris, another culturally rich city which plays a vital role in their story as well. Jesse and Celine had moved on in their lives and the smooth verbal exchange at times pricks our curiosity too much. Whether they will get back together? We know not. But we are left in a zone of suspense, and a quite shocking one.

Unadulterated bliss.
One of my favorite films of all time,Before Sunrise charts the development of the bonding between two strangers, Jesse and Celine set against the culturally rich backdrop of Vienna. It is as if Vienna is almost the third character in the story. Jesse(Hawke) and Celine(Delpy) meet each other while travelling to Vienna. They have different destinations to reach, different plans and different background of broken relationships-yet instantly they get talking and slowly develop a bond. Though the title suggests a limited span of time, these people choose to keep their original plans at bay and spend the night together, roaming around Vienna. There is as if no end to the night-the time they spend together mocks at the title's apparent suggestion and they make the most of the available time. They discuss art, culture, future and existence.
There is so much naturalness in their characters and the effervescence of youth. They are impulsive and daring and casually step on the deeper aspects of their bonding. They kiss, and make love yet dare to keep themselves from sharing contacts but make a bold promise to get back to each other. The film is set like a semi-documentary and a dialogue marathon but the pace and the essence never staggers. The series of verbal exchanges are rich and profound, and realistic just like conversation between strangers. The new city, and they are travelers-there is an amalgamation of culture and ideas with these two people who are so alike, and yet so different.
