      The episode opens with shows on a white car (1986 Toyota Trueno) driving down a mountain road sometime during the night. There are various views of the interior and exterior of the car, though the driver remains unseen as the car drifts and slides down the mountain road with near perfect driving skill at high speed (130km/h). It passes by a man in a car driving in the opposite direction, who comments (on seeing the car) ""So he's still driving in these mountains..."" The scene cuts to two teen

      At the end of the last episode, the '86 had just made a perfect drift on a dangerous turn, leaving Keisuke in it's dust, trying to figure out how the '86, a 10 year old car, passed him easily. At the tofu shop (also the Fujiwara home) Takumi recieves a phone call that wakes him up, and goes to meen Natsuki in town, as she wants to spend the day with him. Takumi agrees since they've never had a major argument. Natsuki asks Takumi if he can drive, and he says he can, so Natsuki says he can drive

      After crashing his car, Iketani is taken to hospital by the 4WD driver he nearly crashed into. One of his teammates tells Itsuki and Takumi what happened the next day at work, that he crashed and his car is wrecked. Itsuki freaks out, becuase now there is noone with a hope of beating the RedSuns in the race coming up that Saturday. Iketani gets out of hospital and goes to check on his car, but it's still a wreck, as the parts aren't available. He goes to the tofu shop to see Bunta, and begs

      The Takahashi brothers make last minute adjustments to the FD while waiting for the 86 to arrive. Keisuke starts to get pissed off with waiting and is determined to use his frustration to really beat the Speed Stars badly in the race. Itsuki arrives on a scooter after Takumi failed to pick him up, and since it's nearly time, Iketani relies on Kenji to race in his place. The crowd lining the sides of the track are absolutely stunned by the display of driving, especially that the outdated '86 Trueno can keep up with a sports car like the RX7. Ryousuke gets on the radio and tells the man at the next turn checkpoint to explain exactly what he sees.       With Itsuki and his Eight-Five belittled by some guys, Takumi takes it upon himself to drive with Itsuki down Mount Akina to overtake the offending cars. Itsuki is amazed that Takumi can drive such an outdated car so well, and afterwards says he will work hard to be a good racer. Meanwhile, Natsuki asks Takumi on another date, but Takumi remembers he promised his buddy Itsuki he could join so he asks Natsuki to set him up for a double date.       Takumi has managed to arrange a double date for the day: he goes with Natsuki, while Itsuki goes with Natsuki’s friend, who turns out to be someone Itsuki really likes! Iketani invites Takumi to drive his S-13, but this time he’s going to try to stay awake the whole time. Then the Night Kids arrive with Shingo leading the pack.       Shingo has challenged the Eight-Six driver to a Duct Tape Death Match and awaits his response. Takumi doesn’t seem interested, even when his friends explain the challenges to each other about the match. That seems to be the safe idea. Meanwhile, Itsuki calls up Saori for a date, and they go to Lake Akina. Shingo hasn’t heard back so he escalates the situation when he sees Itsuki’s Eight-Five driving down Mount Akina.

      Shingo provoked a challenge to a downhill race. Unable to put up with threats to his friends Takumi accepts, but on finding out that it will be a gumtape death match where his driving hand will be taped on the steering wheel so he can not remove it his friends think that he might have bitten off to much than he can handle. Will Takumi be able to learn how to master the skill needed to race with this handicap or will it be the end of the mighty Eighty - Six.

      During the Gumtape Battle Shingo’s reckless driving makes Takumi angry after a near collsion with Shingo. This is a new type of driving having to deal with aggressive and not being able to remove his hand from the steering wheel causes takumi to show one of his firsts change of expressions. His face and driving feels with anger as he attacks back using no thought but to win and due it at speeds and cornering that is just pure dangerous.

      Iketani is given a tempting incentive by Mako if he can have the Eight-Six race Mako's team. Offended by the offer, he turns it down in anger, but mentions it to Takumi, who accepts the challenge without any convincing. Takumi's recent battles have given him a greater appreciation of driving and the need to try other roads.

      The race has begun on Mt. Usui. With Mako driving the mouse, the Impact Blue team hopes to see how Takumi and his Eight-Six handle the pressure, and then plan to leave him in the dust. He issues the challenge and the stage is set to make or break a legend. Takumi's team makes some tuning adjustments to the Eight-Six, but will it be enough to face Ryousuke?
