Derek : Season 2

Derek is excited because his father Anthony is moving into the home. When Anthony arrives he is a hard-drinking womanizer keen for sex with the female residents but he has been somewhat estranged from Derek and asks him to draw up a wish list to help him to do something nice for his son. Hannah is moved by the result. Vicky puts Derek on Twitter with his message Be Nice to Animals whilst Derek and Dougie are annoyed by new worker Geoffrey, to the extent that Dougie quits his job.

Following Dougie's departure Kev decides to apply for the post of the home's caretaker and dons a suit and a dead man's tie, as well as vowing to give up the Special Brew. For all that he fails to get the job. Meanwhile Hannah and Tom's efforts to try for a baby become very public knowledge whilst Derek's guileless belief that friendship is more important than money first baffles and then impresses financier Pete, who is visiting his grandfather at the home.

There is much celebration at the home as Hannah discovers that she is pregnant, after which she sees off a loutish boyfriend of Vicki with a rolling pin. Anthony takes fellow resident Annie out on a date, causing Derek to worry that they might get married and then split up whilst Kev persuades Derek to try online dating but is appalled when Derek's first reply comes from Kev's own bit on the side. Derek surprises everybody with his knowledge of sign language when a deaf woman applies to be a resident, after which he joins an outing to London Zoo where he enjoys himself with the animals and Vicky is charmed by Andy, a resting actor working at the zoo, with whom she makes a date. Back at the home the callous, sadistic Geoff is in charge, making it clear that he despises the old folk. Sure enough Andy phones Vicky for a date on her return but she has to put it on hold as she rushes to help H

Derek is given heartbreaking news, whilst the weight of the world begins to fall on Hannah as she struggles to cope with problems in the care home.

Derek gets a date via the Internet with a woman called Tracey. All the staff and residents are pleased for him, except the jealous Geoff, who tries to sabotage Derek by making him spill a fizzy drink down his jumper though when Kev stands up for him and Geoff pushes him Derek is uncharacteristically aggressive. As Geoff apologizes to Hannah Derek meets Tracey in a French bistro where, despite his being confused by the menu and mistaking the towels for mints, the date goes fairly well. On return
