Douglas,his co-worker and landlord,is less impressed. In the course of the day Derek falls into a pond,sets up his friend Hannah with a date with a handsome visitor and takes the death of a resident to heart.

Derek knows exactly what he wants: JLS, Susan Boyle and Stacey Solomon for music, and vol-au-vents, sausage rolls and chicken Kiev for food. And there's a new addition to the staff: community service worker Vicky, who's convinced she looks like Victoria Beckham.

Later, Derek and some of the residents attend a jumble sale, and then it's date night for Tom and Hannah, but she's forgotten.

      In the final episode of the series, Hannah has received a phone call from a man claiming to be Derek's estranged father; an alcoholic who abandoned him when he was very young. Derek and his mother never spoke about him because it upset her too much, and Derek still finds it hard and says he doesn't want to meet him. Meanwhile, a much-loved resident is in decline, which sets in motion a sequence of events culminating in the appearance of an unexpected visitor.
