A Nawazuddin Siddiqui Fan? - I Bet You Haven't Watched All Of His Movies.

Today, in this segment, we are not going to discuss about Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kick, Raees, etc. Instead, we would have a look at those unknown films in which Nawazuddin Siddiqui starred, be it for a small-time appearance or a lead role. The 42 year old actor is a gem of an actor and we all have seen the proof what with movies such as Raman Raghav 2.0, Gangs of Wasseypur, Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2, Manjhi The Mountain Man, Haraamkhor, Talaash, Kahaani, etc.

1. Sarfarosh

Yes, this was an Aamir Khan film all the way but there was also a spark of Nawaz in a certain scene. This 1999 movie not only won both a National Award as well as a Filmfare Award, but was also screened at the International Film Festival Of India. Wondering in which scene Nawazuddin appeared? I won't tell you. Let me tell you, he plays a terrorist in the movie. That was all. Rest find it yourself! *wink*

2. Jungle

This Ram Gopal Varma directorial released in the year 2000. Starring Fardeen Khan, Sunil Shetty & Urmila Matondkar in lead roles, the movie won the Bollywood Movie Award For Best Direction. Nawaz played the role of Khabri(messenger) in the critically acclaimed film.

3. Munna bhai M.B.B.S.

Initially, I planned not to mention this movie in this segment, but then when I watched the film, I overlooked Nawazuddin's presence in a certain scene. I'm sure almost everyone would go through the same thing. Hence, I listed down this Rajkumar Hirani directorial which released in 2003. He shared screen along with Sunil Dutt & Sanjay Dutt in the opening scenes where he tries to pick the pocket of Sunil Dutt.

4. Black Friday

This non-fictional film, which is directed by the renowned film-maker Anurag Kashyap, faced immense censorship problems initially due to its controversial content. As a result, after getting delayed by 3 years, it finally released in 2007. The name of Nawaz's character in the movie was Asgar Mukadam. This performance paved the way for other powerful roles.

5. Patang

You may tag this as his debut film as this was his first feature film where he played the lead role. He played the role of a wedding singer Chakku in this Prashant Bhargava directorial, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. This role transformed his acting style and prowess as renowned film critic Roger Ebert awarded the film 4 out of 5 stars.

6. Dev D

Tauba Tera Jalwa, Tauba Tera Pyaar, Tera Emotional Atyachaar… Who else remembers this epic chartbuster? Ever paid careful attention and noticed who the band members were in the music video? I'm sure you didn't. Let me tell you, Siddiqui appeared in a cameo in the music video as Rangila along with his duo Rasila (together known as Patna Ke Presley). This Anurag Kashyap directorial releaaed in 2009.

7. New York

This Kabir Khan directorial released in 2009. Nawaz played the character of a terrorist Zilgai. Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh) learns that Maya (Katrina Kaif) is a civil rights activist who is helping one of Sam's employees, Zilgai (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) overcome his experience as a former 9/11 detainee. Zilgai was eventually released due to lack of evidence and has been having difficulty adjusting back to "normal" life. That was all because I don't want to reveal the whole thing. 8. Peepli [LIVE]

This Anusha Rizvi directorial, which released in 2010, dealt with the theme of 'farmer suicides' and the subsequent media and political reaction. Nawaz played the role of a journalist Rakesh in this Aamir Khan Productions' venture, which first got him recognition as an actor.

9. Miss Lovely

Miss Lovely, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, is set in the criminal depths of Mumbai's C-grade (horror and porn film) industry. He played the lead role in this movie and quotes it as his "most real performance so far." This movie was also premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Siddiqui, as Sonu Duggal totally nailed it and won accolades internationally.

10. The Bypass

He also did a short film The Bypass in 2003, where he appeared with Irrfan Khan. It is one of the winning scripts of the 2003 Film Four/UK Film Council Cinema Extreme Series, and was awarded the Audience Award and the Best Cinematography at Kodak/BAFTA Short Film Showcase. The Amit Kumar film has also won Best Short Award at IFFLA Turner Classic Movies Shorts Award at the London Film Festival.

11. Firaaq

This Nandita Das film portrayed the devastating impact of riots on vulnerable Muslims in Gujarat. Firaaq has won the 56th National Film Awards (2009) for Best Art Direction and Best Editing.

12. Dekh Indian Circus

Set in the deserts of barren Rajasthan, the story is about the struggles of a family. At a larger level, it depicts the aspirations of rural India. This Mangesh Hadawale movie has bagged awards like Audience Choice Award and 16th Busan International Film Festival, 2011. Nawazuddin Siddiqui also won the Best Actor award at the 12th New York Film Festival, 2012.

13. Mehfuz

Directed by Rohit Pandey and produced by Anurag Kashyap, this 17-minute short film is a story of a man and how his usual journey changes as he notices a strange woman one night, wandering through the empty streets. The behavior of the woman changes and his journey does too. This short film won second prize at the 8th Dubai International Film Festival.

14. Liar's Dice

The Geetu Mohandass directorial had a world premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival in October 2013, where it stood in the Indian competition section. In January 2014, the film was also screened at the Sundance Film Festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam. It bagged a special jury award at Sofia International Film Festival.

15. Monsoon Shootout

Directed by Amit Kumar, the movie was released at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and the reception for the film was highly positive with many international critics talking about the film's noir and artistic detailing. Watch it for Nawazuddin's suave look!
