It features eleven teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world. It premiered on September 30, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and CTV with the two-hour season finale on December 9, 2012. While the prize for winning the Race remains at US$1 million, if the team that came in first in the first leg had won the race, the prize would have been doubled to US$2 million. The Fabulous Beekman Boys stars and life partners Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge were the winners of The Amazing Race 21.
