125 Years Memory Plot

125 Years Memory (海難1890, Kainan 1890) is a 2015 drama film directed by Mitsutoshi Tanaka and written by Eriko Komatsu. A Japanese-Turkish co-production, the film was released in Japan by Toei on December 5, 2015 and in Turkey by Mars on December 25, 2015. Two historical incidents that deepened the friendship between Japan and Turkey are connected in the film: The sinking of the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul off the Japanese coast in 1890, and the evacuation of Japanese nationals from Iran in 1985. By making this film about friendship and compassion, the initiators intended to contribute to world peace. The film received ten nominations at the 39th Japan Academy Film Prize, including Best Film and Best Director, winning the awards for Best Art Direction and Best Sound Recording.
