In the final months of World War II, 14-year-old Seita and his sister Setsuko are orphaned when their mother is killed during an air raid in Kobe, Japan. After a falling out with their aunt, they move into an abandoned bomb shelter. With no surviving relatives and their emergency rations depleted, Seita and Setsuko struggle to survive.

Brace yourselves. You will shed tears.
If you ever thought anime/manga is for kids or if you have ever made the mistake of putting these in the ''cartoon'' category, you are making a sad error. This particular movie is something that can make a tiger cry. Yes, not a movie with real humans but this. It isn't for nothing that this movie is considered 'second-saddest' in movie-history ever. Take a good watch and you will know what I am saying. War is harsh, kids are cute, brother-sister relationships is awfully beautiful. These three combined and you will get a lethal combination of tears, love and...shock. Go ahead. |
