Engaging and humorous off-field football drama that is a delight for football lovers
I've seen quite a number of football movies being a big football fan. There are lots of biographies and dramtic football movies but none like Rudo y Cursi. First of all, even though the two central characters are footballers, most of the film takes place outside the football field. In fact we get to see the ball being kicked around only a couple of times throughout the movie. It may seem that this movie hardly qualifies as a football movie, but it is not so. The peculiar feature of Rudo y Cursi is that all facets of life are explained through football rules and philosophies. The human life is turned into a strange football metaphor.

Rudo y Cursi is essentially a movie about high-stakes sibling rivalry. One is a hot-shot striker and other is a cool-headed goal-keeper. The movie aims for a comedic and humorous tone that take the proceedings forward with a wink and a grin. With their meteoric rise in the football field, they see their lives transform from living in rundown hovels to swanky bungalows and driving shiny sports cars. Soon their lives spiral out of control and that forms the crux of the story. The two leads are played by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, who have shared the screen in Y Tu Mama Tambien before, and here too they have amazing chemistry. The movie will leave a smile on your face in the end.

Baby Driver is the epitome of stylish, fast-paced action that makes Fast and Furious look tame
Smooth is the first adjective that pops in my head when I think of Baby Driver. Edgar Wright has cemented his name as one of modern cinema's most distinct filmmakers with his critically acclaimed "Three Flavoured Cornetto Trilogy" and the cult darling Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. This time he tried his hand at directing an action movie and boy! does he do wonders! Even though his earlier films had elements of action, he had not directed a full-fledged action film.

Baby Driver is about the eponymous Baby who is a get away driver (duh!) and helps in criminals escape in heists. His life is turned upside down when he encounters the charming music loving waitress Deborah and he tries to get out of the criminal life. The film has comedy, action, drama, emotions all wrapped up in the most unique soundtrack. The movie is set in a hyper-realistic world where every movement is synced to the music and all the sound produced syncs up to the music. It is a very difficult gimmick to keep up throughout a movie but if someone could do it, it is Edgar Wright and he does an amazing job. This action movie is both stylish and smart.

Goofy, hilarious and utterly stupid - the perfect blend for a joyful evening
Superheroes are all the rage today. They are churning billions in the box office and the superhero fever is at its peak. Superman is the movie that began it all in 1978. And then came this travesty of a movie 1987. Superman IV is a goofy, non-sensical, dumb and shoddily made movie that takes a giant dump on the legacy of Superman.
Made on a minuscule budget as compared to the original movie, Superman IV cut down on their budget for special effects, sets and costumes and what we get is a funny comical movie that seems like it was a film student's project that got rejected at film school. The antagonist Nuclear-Man is one of the dumbest thing to be put on film. The film firmly falls in the category of "So Bad That It's Good" and it is a joy to watch with friends on a weekend. There are elements in this movie that would be totally unacceptable in today's superhero movies like bad acting, non-sensical script, atrocious special effects and an utterly insane slow-paced fist-fight on moon. Yes, freaking moon!

One of the most engaging and beautiful romantic dramas in recent years
Mayaanadhi is pure poetry in motion. Every frame, every dialogue is meticulously crafted. The movie tells the story of Apu and Mathan and their urban life and love story. Mayaanadhi is a movie that is best enjoyed with headphones on because of the masterful sound design and acoustics of the movie.

Mayaanadhi is a refreshing watch in this age of clichéd predictable big budget cinema. The movie depicts an urban love story in one of the most sensitive and realistic portrayals of modern day love. The two main lead characters are very well written with lots of emotional depth. You are really swept into their fascinating relationship that is a far cry from the usual boy meets girl stories we all are tired of.

Anyone who has ever had a love story in their life will instantly connect to this captivating drama that is deep and insightful.

Charlie Kaufman's unravelling of life's crisis is a must watch
Charlie Kaufman has always delivered thought-provoking philosophical gems throughout his career. In Anomalisa, he takes up the mantle of the director again after his earlier hit, the amusing Synecdoche, New York. Anomalisa is another piece of cinematic wonder from the mind of the the acclaimed screenwriter. Anomalisa tells the soul-crushing story of a middle aged man Michael who despite a successful career is going through crisis after crisis in his life.

Michael has a negative attitude to life and he perceives everyone as being identical to one another. The movie wonderfully portrays this by showing every character as having the same facial features and all voiced by one person, Tom Noonan. Michael's life suddenly takes a turn when he meets a unique woman Lisa (voiced by Jennifer Jason Leigh) with whom he embarks on a cinematic journey. the mundane activities of Michael's life are brought to life through glorious stop motion work that captures the slightest human emotions on the puppets. This movie is a must watch for anyone who wishes to explore life from a different perspective.

Sharp and entertaining satire about the twisted human mind.
This is an Argentinian anthology film consisting of several stories. The one thing common to all these tales is the theme of Revenge. These stories range from the quirky, funny tales to full-on gory affairs. The entire set up of the movie is dipped in irony. The movie offers some interesting visuals like a plane crash see up close, long winding roads and a multi story building being detonated into rubble. Stories like Pasternak and Bombita are witty, clever, twisted and humour in its own way.

All the actors do a great job playing dark, twisted characters. The movie can be seen as a study of human behavior and how when even a very good man finally snaps, he ca turn into a dark conniving criminal. The movie sheds light on the animalistic instincts of man, a point conveyed through the opening credits where every name in the credit is substantiated by a particular animal. Relatos Salvajes serves the viewers poignant satire dipped in delicious black humour.

Creepy, terrifying and brilliant - a True Horror Masterpiece
The Omen is a seminal horror film that is a must watch just for the premise itself. The story revolves around a young mother who loses her child in childbirth and without her knowledge her baby is replaced with another young boy who they name as Damien. The catch here is that the boy called Damien is actually the son of Satan. Whoever becomes aware of his true identity gets gruesomely killed in various accidents that all seem natural.

The Omen is like a precursor to many modern horror flicks like Final Destination series because this was the movie that introduced the concept of a series of seemingly harmless events leading to a gory death. The scenes of death are a true macabre spectacle to behold. There is enough gore in the form of beheading, piercings and maulings to give you the creeps. The music does a great job in increasing the dread in the viewer. This movie is a masterclass in atmospheric cinema and well executed scares.

Magical tale of adventure and fun conveyed through beautiful visuals
Laika is a studio synonymous with gorgeously animated stop motion cinema. Ever since the success of their debut film Coraline released in 2009, the studio has become a powerhouse in this particular genre of films. Kubo is their latest offering which still has the signature Laika feel to it.

Kubo and the Two Strings is a fairy tale set in Japan. The Japanese aesthetics of the movie combined with gorgeous stop motion work, turns this movie into a visual spectacle like no other. Every frame of the movie is like a painting. A lot of time was spent in carefully crafting all the elements in the movie and it shows. The story is about a young boy's quest to defeat the power hungry Moon King and his mother's two evil sisters. He is accompanied by a monkey and a beetle (voiced by Mathew McConaughey) on this epic journey. The movie might leave you all teary eyed in the end because of its emotional depth.
For a movie that revolves around musical instruments, the soundtrack is exceptional and greatly adds to the feel of the movie. This is a joyful offering that you should not refuse.

Shine Mathew reviewed Once
Breathtakingly poignant musical romance
Once is a movie that arrests your attention right from the first scene when Glen Hansard's voice shakes you up in the first song. The pain in his voice is evident even before you know anything about the movie. From there on, we are introduced to the little world of two nameless musicians who bond over music.

Once is a movie made on shoe string budget using cheap cameras and that adds a new layer of visual aesthetics to the proceedings. The two lead actors do a wonderful job. Hansard is a lovable heart-broken guy and ‎Markéta Irglová plays the charming heroine. The movie is further enhanced by a stupendous soundtrack with the Oscar winning song "Falling Slowly" getting firmly etched in the heart. This movie has charm, beauty, warmth and most of all it has its heart in the right place.
