Das letzte Schweigen Review

The movie begins with a young girl raped and murdered (in 1986) by a man called Peer Sommer in the fields, with his friend Timo being the witness but not the assister in any way. Then the movie switches to 23 years later when another similarly aged girl is murdered at the exact same place. Timo kept his silence all these years as he moved away from Sommer and the movie shows how he deals with the remorse which comes back running after the latest murder freshen up bitter old memories for him. It also focuses on how the single mother of a girl murdered in 1986 and parents of the one murdered 23 years later dealing with trauma. Not just this, movie also shows the exasperation of an investigative officer, who lost his wife to cancer, to solve the case and find the murderer. So is the murderer same in both cases? If yes, why would he wait for 23 years to kill another girl in the exact same place? Did he want to send sort of message? Does Timo go to the police and breaks off his silence and help them get to his killer friend? It is a psychological drama with a chilling ending. I’d give it a solid 9/10.
