When one starts remaking a near perfect anime series into a movie, he must have it in mind the concepts used in the original series which captivated so many spectators. 10 minutes into the movie, you realize how fast paced the movie is. The dialogue delivery seemed like I was watching the movie at 1.25x. You think there must be something in the middle part for which the beginning had been so fast paced. But when you reach through the end of the movie, you realize that you felt nothing. Given that the plot was already cooked, I do not think that the director did it right to erase some of the important parts of the series from the movie. Light did not have much depth. We really did not care about him. L who was supposed to be a super introvert and mysterious was surprisingly springing over cars to chase light and showing rage which in the eyes of a casual viewer was the best part of the movie. Light's girlfriend was a sadist and loved watching graphic murders as depicted in a scene. It is questioning how a genious like him fell for a person like that. The best character was the Shinigami who was perfectly portrayed here. This movie, above all did hugely disappoint in all its ways. Not just because it is actually a terrible movie but also because it ruined a near perfect anime series' image.
