Initially produced by Verity Lambert, it was made by Euston Films, a subsidiary of Thames Television and shown on ITV. The show ran for ten series between 29 October 1979 and 10 March 1994, and starred Dennis Waterman as Terry McCann, an honest and likable bodyguard and George Cole as Arthur Daley, a socially ambitious, but highly unscrupulous importer-exporter, wholesaler, used-car salesman, and anything else from which there was money to be made whether inside the law or not. The show was largely responsible for putting the word minder, meaning personal bodyguard, into the UK and Australian popular lexicon. The characters often drank at the local members-only Winchester Club, where owner and barman Dave acted, often unwillingly, as a message machine for Arthur, and turned a blind eye to his shady deals. 26 Dec '83Arthur and Terry help Dave to decorate the Christmas tree in the Winchester, whilst ‘Er Indoors and the children are supposedly on their way to Florida. It transpires that the tickets, purchased by Arthur from a mate, are standby only, and she is not pleased. She remains stranded at the airport, but Arthur makes a few urgent calls and eventually she gets away. 11 Jan '84When Arthur goes to a pirate boxing match, it gives him the idea, of getting Terry back into the ring for a fight with Jackie Wilson the man he fought seven years ago, when Terry threw the fight, and lost his licence. Things start to get complicated when Wilson's wife shows up and suggests that her husband isn't fit to fight.

15 Feb '84An Australian girl turns up at the Winchester and asks Arthur for help in finding an old boyfriend. But unknown to Arthur she and the long lost boyfriend are confidence tricksters and after pulling a big con in Australia, he has fled with her share of the money.

22 Feb '84When a rock star fakes his death, Terry tries to protect him from his unscrupulous manager, and a record producer who both want a share of his last recording which due to a mix up has ended up in Arthur's lock up.Arthur tries to sell the tape when it becomes clear that due to his so-called "death" the record has every chance of being a hit.

14 Mar '84When an illegal bookie threatens a customer who owes him money, the customer collapses and dies of a heart attack. Arthur, who is about to go into hospital for an operation, is an eye witness to the event and in no time he is being chased by the police, the bookie and the customers family.

21 Mar '84When Arthur tries to sell some fake dresses to a fashion agent, he refuses, but offers Terry a job guarding his warehouse, but Terry has already promised a pub owner that he will work for him, so Arthur stands in for him.
