R. J. Cutler is a television- and filmmaker. He specializes in film documentaries and "serious reality TV". He was educated at Harvard University and graduated in 1983; he also attended the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. The War Room is a documentary which showed the 1992 presidential campaign of Bill Clinton. American High is a documentary about the lives of students in Highland Park, Illinois. Cutler used the innovative technique of giving video cameras to fourteen students and allowing them to record footage which he then edited into the final product. Black. White. was a television series on FX television and featured two families--one white, the other black--who traded places and races. He also produced Greatest American Dog. Cutler is also a producer of numerous television programs. He has won an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, and been nominated for an Academy Award, two other Emmys, two GLAAD Awards, an Independent Spirit Award, and a Producers Guild Award. In 2009 The September Issue was released. The cinéma vérité documentary film followed editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and the staff of Vogue Magazine in the production of their September 2007 issue.
