One of the best road movies ever, Thelma and Louise are also about relationship and liberation. Two women set out on a journey and the endless troubles in their life begin there. The movie that was released in 1991 was directed by Ridley Scott and saw Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon in the lead roles. The direction and camera work of the movie is extraordinary

5. Diarios de motocicleta

What made Che Guevara a revolutionary? A motorcycle is all it took. Winning the BAFTA award for the best foreign language film, this was directed by Walter Salles. Ernesto is in a medical school and him with friend Alberto Grenado decides to travel to Peru from Brazil that too in a motorcycle. The journey turns out to be an eye-opener. Continuous encounter with the plight of the suppressed Ernesto realizes his privileges. How shall his life and values change?

4.Into the Wild

Directed by Sean Penn this is a biographical road movie on the life of Christopher McCandless. Christopher has graduated from the university as a gold medallist. He is however not happy with a mundane life, he destructs all his identity related documents and sets out on a trip to Alaskan wilderness. However, after a point solitude becomes insufferable and McCandless tries his best to get out of the wilderness which proves to be futile. Will he survive? Emile Hirsch plays the lead role.

3. Locke

A successful construction manager, Locke receives a phone call on one of the important days in his life. He comes to learn that the woman with whom he had a one night stand gave birth to a baby. A series of events unravel as he drives to London in a car. Tom Hardy does the lead role as Ivan Locke.

Directed by Jafar Panahi and starring Jafar Panahi, Hana Saeidi, this is a movie in which the director himself appears as a taxi driver. He is driving through the streets of Iran while his passengers give views and opinion on different things. The movie won Golden Bear at Berlin International Film Festival.

A family is on a cross-country trip. The whole objective of the trip is to support the youngest daughter in a beauty pageant. However, with different kinds of people set on a journey, it doesn’t seem to go that smooth. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris did the lead roles.
