Script

Raees is a fictitious story based in the early 80’s and 90’s in Gujarat, India. The film revolves around the man named Raees portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, who builds an entire empire from the scratch. He starts working for a smuggler where Raees his job is to help smuggle liquor, store it in ware houses and then sell the stock illegally to local vendors. He then decides to start his own smuggling business. He falls in love with Aasiya (portrayed by Mahira Khan). Their chemistry is something people will be talking about for quite some time. But then comes the antagonist, a tough cop Jaideep Ambalal Majmudar (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) whose sole reason for existence is the elimination of crime. What ensues next is an epic battle between the two, which forms a key defining element of the film’s narrative.
The key element to Raees’ story is to keep the audience hooked, and thankfully it pretty much works here. The kids who played the roles of young Shah Rukh Khan and Zeeshan Ayyub, were excellent in their respective parts. The main attraction of a masala entertainer are its dialogues. Raees manages to pull off some excellent one-liners. Shah Rukh & Nawazuddin's dialogues are surely gonna get whistles and claps in the theatre. The music of the film is highly recommendable. The background music is perfect and keeps you hooked. The songs Zaalima, Udi Udi Jaaye and Saanson Ke are soothing to ther ear. Special mention to Laila. No, not because of Sunny Leone's dance. Though Sunny dances brilliantly, the entire item number is dominated by Shah Rukh. The fight sequence during Laila is phenomenal. One of the best moments in the entire film! The cat and mouse chase comes to an end in an exceptional climax scene. You'll the best of SRK and Nawaz in the entire climax scene.

Star Performance

Shah Rukh Khan looks magical. His kohl eyed look completely suits him. Coming to his acting, he's excellent as usual. He excells in the scenes where he emotes extreme anger, and also where he breaks down. The film lies entirely on his shoulders and he carries the weight most of the times. When he doesn’t, the reliable Nawazuddin Siddiqui steps in with his crackling performance. He gives Raees the much-needed lift. His 'Michael Jackson'entry scene is surely going to make you laugh. This is the first time the audience is going to experience an intriguing clash between two brilliant actors on screen.
Mahira Khan looks gorgeous and does well in all of her scenes. Her chemistry with Shah Rukh is adorable. Zeeshan Ayyub and Atul Kulkarni once again prove their worth. They blend perfectly and their screen presence is excellent. After Zeeshan's act as Raees' friend, he's surely going to get good scripts in future. This excellent group of actors are the main reason why Raees turns out to be an amazing watch!

Verdict

A perfect tribute to Vintage-Bollywood! An entertainer completely worth your time and money. Get your dose of entertainment this year with Shah Rukh and Nawazuddin. Don't miss this!
